We were blown away by the response to our recent post on products that are manufactured in Peterborough & the Kawarthas. With some of your input, and a few ideas of our own, we have compiled another list to share and celebrate the stories of products that are made in Peterborough & the Kawarthas. Check them out below...

1. Over the summer, Charlotte Products—part of Swish Group of Companies—launched ALLORGANIC® products, the first Canadian Made USDA Certified Organic cleaning products line. This means they contain at least 95-99% organic ingredients. Pretty incredible, and awesome for the environment!

2. Is the car you drive a GM? Roughly 1 in 6 cars in Canada are. Merit Precision Moulding is a plastic injection moulding company that is a Tier 1 supplier that ships directly to General Motors. Locally, they supply to Savage Arms and Siemens Milltronics.

3. An important part of Peterborough’s aerospace supply chain, Safran Electronics Canada manufactures electronic control solutions— including landing gear, steering and braking systems and propeller de-icing control, to name a few, used for both civil and military aircraft and helicopters.

4. Cross Wind Farm is a favourite amongst many local farmers’ market enthusiasts. They create artisan goat cheese and milk products, as well as bath and soap products. They were just named the Grand Champion in the Variety Cheese category for their seasoned feta at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair.

5. For 87 years, Lucky Strike Bait Works has created quality fishing tackle in Peterborough. Some of your greatest fishing conquests could be thanks to a local lure! You can find their fishing lures and nets at Canadian Tire and Walmart stores.

6. General Electric has two separate divisions that operate in Peterborough: GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy Canada (GEH-C) and GE Motors. The Nuclear Division has a long standing history in Peterborough. In 1955, the first Canadian commercial nuclear reactor, as part of the Nuclear Steam Supply System, was designed and constructed right here in Peterborough. GE Motors delivers advanced motor, drive and control technologies to sectors including the energy and marine sectors.

7. Peterborough companies also make life just a little more convenient. One example? Genpak manufactures the technology and the lids in order to make packaging coffee creamers possible.

HERE'S WHAT MAKES OUR MANUFACTURING SECTOR SO UNIQUE...

Peterborough’s manufacturing sector is made up of a network of talented and innovative professionals and entrepreneurs. Businesses present in the community are important supporters of the Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre and the Kawartha Manufacturers Association. In terms of the creative economy—that is, people who are paid to think—1 in 5 workers in Peterborough’s Advanced Manufacturing sector are employed in creative occupations, like engineers, specialized equipment operators and designers. Career opportunities in these occupations continue to grow in the region.
