Local entrepreneurs all know about the Bears’ Lair Competition that has been building momentum and growing for years now in Peterborough. It’s become a staple in the local business community.

Two years ago, due to its overwhelming success FastStart Peterborough created a youth spinoff appropriately named Cub’s Lair. Well guess what?! It’s back for another year and it’s going to be just as amazing! Not to mention, this year Cubs’ Lair is presented by #Ontario150!

Youth might be thinking, where is my opportunity? I have an incredible idea, too! FastStart Peterborough and the Trent Youth Entrepreneurship Society heard your thoughts and are partnering up yet again to host this competition for young Peterborough Entrepreneurs between the ages of 18-29 who are interested in starting their own business. With its incredibly appropriate name, Cubs' Lair has been created to give local youngsters just that chance!

FastStart Peterborough created Cubs' Lair to meet the growing need for youth entrepreneurship programming in the city. (FastStart has helped launch young companies such as Ribbet, Amusé and last year’s winner Baby Evia that created a subscription service for organic baby clothing!) Entrepreneurial minds come in all ages, which is why they’re so excited to bring this competition back again. Peterborough is fully alive with new business ideas and knows that the future is incredibly bright!

HERE ARE A FEW KEY DETAILS YOU'LL WANT TO KNOW...

-> This competition is open to anyone between the ages of 18-29 that have an idea to start a business or are in the early stages of starting their own business.

-> Help is provided, as FastStart Peterborough will gladly meet you wherever you are on your journey. A series of workshops and one-on-one sessions are also at your disposal to help prepare potential candidates for the finals!

-> The event officially launched at Ontario 150 Presents: E-Connect with Michele Romanow at Market Hall Performing Arts Theatre on October 30th.

HOW TO APPLY (IT'S REALLY QUITE SIMPLE)

Step 1: Submit a photo that you think represents your company, a short description of your company and an email/contact address to the Facebook page - Cubs' Lair Entrepreneurship Competition. The photo with the most "Likes" will receive a $100 prize separate from the Final Prize Package. (DEADLINE: November 15th, 2017)

Step 2: Submit a one page description of your business—the one page form can be found -> here. (DEADLINE: November 17th, 2017)

NOTE: ->> Make sure you do both of the above steps!

If you have an idea for a business you’ve wanted to pursue and fall within the necessary age range of 18-29, this is an incredible opportunity. Don’t delay! The TOP 5 will be announced on November 22nd, 2017, so the turnaround is pretty quick!

The competition takes place live at the Gordon Best Theatre on Hunter St. in downtown Peterborough on November 30th at 7 p.m.
