PTBOCanada Featured Post: Ricky's Peterborough Celebrates 10 Years In Town

One of Peterborough’s favourite restaurants, with over a million customers served, is set to celebrate a pretty big milestone in November. Ricky’s All Day Grill Peterborough, owned by Cindy and Dave Crowley, is about to turn 10—yet it doesn’t look a day over 5.

In this short amount of time, Ricky’s has become ingrained in the food fabric of our great community thanks to timeless menu options, a welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff, and a pair of owners who it seems everyone somehow knows—at least by association.

While many restaurants have come and gone during its time, Ricky’s seems to only be picking up steam, and with a special birthday coming up Cindy and Dave want to celebrate (more details on that coming up below!).

Located at the Lansdowne St. and Monoghan Rd. intersection at 898 Monaghan Rd, on what should be known as “Restaurant Alley” in Peterborough, Ricky’s offers an experience so natural that it almost feels like you’re eating at home, upscaled, but minus all the dishes.

Before the Crowleys brought Ricky’s to town in a move that would shake up the city's eat-in landscape, Cindy put a lot of time into the restaurant industry working for other establishments. Her experience, along with Dave’s business savvy, convinced them it was time to venture out on their own.

Just over ten years ago, the couple made the decision to look for a Canadian Franchise to bring to town and the rest is history. Finding a Canadian franchise was important to them, and Ricky’s had all the right ingredients: It been around for 40 years, was totally Canadian owned and used all major Canadian suppliers. With these boxes ticked off, they worked their way through the process to become owners and soon broke ground.

Fast forward 10 years and the evolution of the business is clear for all to see and one that their faithful customers have noticed. While the overall goal of being an upscale dining experience remains the same, not so subtle changes have taken place as they continue to adapt, not wanting to rest on their laurels.

The restaurant itself has undergone an interior makeover, including its carpet, upholstery, lighting and colour scheme. Gone is much of the art and memorabilia as they take on a more minimalistic update that has been well received by their loyal customers.

While they still serve all day breakfast and offer timeless classics such as liver and onions and turkey dinner, the menu has been downsized, based on research and menu item tracking. This has helped to keep what most guests are looking for while they also add new items from time to time to test the waters to keep things fresh and new.

What hasn’t changed is their capacity to provide a great experience in a welcoming atmosphere, with delicious food and friendly staff (six of which have been with them since Day 1!).

For their 10th anniversary, Cindy and Dave are spreading out the celebrations over the weekend of November 17th, 2017. Each guest over those three days will have a chance to win food prizes and more during their visit. There will be Peterborough Petes serving and signing autographs, live music both Friday and Saturday night, and cake. Because what’s a celebration without a cake?

Congrats to community builders Dave and Cindy Crowley and we wish you continued success!
