Peterborough Photographer Ellen Bond Is A Star On The Rise

Peterborough photographer Ellen Bond is drawing rave reviews for her photography, including a powerful photo, "Movement", she took in Dundas Square in Toronto of Curve Lake's Leslie McCue (see below) and Lindy Kinosameg.

"I wanted to show the juxtaposition of traditional First Nation beliefs and the chaos of today," Ellen tells PTBOCanada, adding that Leslie is a former student of hers at Kenner from her high school teaching days.

Bond left teaching and is currently studying photography—her passion—at Algonquin College in Ottawa. She has quickly developed into an excellent editorial and portrait photographer.

Ellen was published in the Ottawa Business Journal recently, and also got the chance to shoot for the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG)—she was on the field for every Ottawa RedBlack game last season.

Indeed, she took these great photos below of former Crestwood student Brad Sinopoli—who plays for Ottawa in the CFL—including one with his Dad.

"Living in Peterborough inspired my photography," Ellen tells PTBOCanada. "It’s such a beautiful place and I would often wander through Jackson Park, or along other trails and take photos. When I began school at Algonquin, I wanted to be a wildlife photographer, but as I went through the courses, my passion has led me to editorial photography, with a side of portrait photography.

This Stunning Composite Of Two Photos Reveals A Cinematic Like Downtown Peterborough

Peterborough photographer Zach Baranowski posted a stunning image of Market Hall and the downtown that is getting hundreds and hundreds of likes on his Instagram page.

Zach says on his Instagram post (embedded below) that the image is a composite of two of his photos—it "makes you realize what's really there, masked by the city lights."

"©Zach Baranowski Photography ~ *spoiler alert* This is a composite of two of my photos. However it makes you realize what's really there, masked by the..."

Zach tells PTBOCanada more about how he created this cinematic-like image using technology:

"I took this shot of the Market Hall on my way home after a night of shooting some promotional photos for One Eighty Hunter," he tells PTBOCanada. "It was shot on my 5D mkii: Manual exposure, 25 sec, f/22, ISO 250. The sky photo was taken a couple weeks ago when I was hiking late at night up at High Falls trail (just down the road from Petroglyphs Provincial Park), and the sky was perfectly clear. The composite was created after I edited the Market Hall photo and decided that the pure dark sky was very uninteresting and took away from the rest of the photo. I then took both of the photos into Photoshop CC."

Zach sent us the beautiful original below that he posted to Instagram...

These Miniature Aerial Images Of Peterborough Are Amazing

Twenty-two-year-old Peterborough photographer/videographer Justin Schofield—currently enrolled in the Integrated Media program at OCAD in Toronto—has created an amazing series of images of a "miniature Peterborough".

Justin first took the photos several years when given multiple chances to fly around Peterborough, and has now digitally manipulated them in this clever way—almost giving them a Lego feel.

"I was playing around with Tilt-shift effect by applying a gradient blur over aerial shots of Peterborough," he tells PTBOCanada. "There is something so intriguing about aerial perspectives, especially when they look miniature."

Justin, a talented photographer, was part of the last graduating class at PCVS before it shut down. He plans to get involved in the film industry once he's completed his studies at OCAD.

Here are more of his miniature photos below...

The Mystery Photo Album That A Peterborough Woman Is Trying To Solve

Peterborough photojournalist Niki Allday has always had a fascination with photography and historical things. So when her Uncle Sean was at a rummage sale near Grafton, Ontario this summer and spotted an old photo album from an unknown family, he picked it up and brought it to Niki.

"The album seems to be a family tree of some sort," Niki tells PTBOCanada. "I would love to get these photos back to the family. I know I would be so thankful to have memories like this of my family."

See pictures below from the album that Niki sent us—they look to be from the late 19th/early 20th century, and the name "Little" appears on several—and share on your social media channels. Contact her if you know the family that would like this back.

Here's Why A Peterborough Woman Did A Boudoir Photo Shoot For Everyone To See

In today's society, the concept of the female body image is one that women and girls all around the world struggle with. Many body types seem unattainable thanks to photoshop editing that we see in magazines and online every day.

For Peterborough's Sara Lunn, the thought of taking a series of boudoir photos with local photographer Stephanie Hayes for the public to see was nerve-wracking. Steph had put the word out she was looking for women to photograph for a boudoir shoot for her online portfolio, and Sara initially jumped at the chance but soon had second thoughts.

"I sat there and stewed about it for a long time," she writes in a blog entry on Steph's site. "I wanted to work with her, but I was torn. One half of me totally wanted to be that girl who looked amazing, fun, and flirty. The other half of me kindly reminded myself that I would have to hide most of my body and there was no way I would be fully comfortable. Surely she would find someone better suited for it (whatever that meant)."

"I have struggled with loving myself for my whole life," adds Sara. "I am not comfortable in my own skin. I can’t remember a time when I was ever comfortable. I have an amazing partner [Ian George, her fiancé] who makes me feel like I am the most beautiful creature on the planet. He also reminds me that no one is perfect and that he loves me because of my imperfections; it’s what makes me who I am."

After trying to think of excuses to back out, Sara ultimately decided to take a leap of faith and go ahead with the shoot.

"When I arrived for the shoot, I met two other women, and as it turned out, we were all incredibly nervous. It was awesome to sit and chat about what our concerns were before the shoot, how we have dealt with our insecurities and what we all hoped to take away that night. It was really great meeting people in totally different places in their lives, but, we all shared similar concerns and fears."

"I was the last one to be photographed and I must admit, it was an absolute blast and would do it a million more times," Sara writes. "Steph made me feel so comfortable and to be honest, I think I was laughing for most of it (when I wasn’t trying to be serious)."

"When I look at my pictures I am blown away. The first picture I saw, I actually squealed out loud and jumped up and down. That is me! Holy crap! I feel beautiful and sexy and most of all – confident and comfortable. That’s all I ever wanted. So to Steph, I say thank you. Thank you for capturing me in a light I never knew existed. It’s wonderful."

"I didn't do this for my fiancé Ian, I did it for myself," Sara tells PTBOCanada. "I did it because I knew it was outside of my comfort zone and I knew Steph wanted to use the photos for her portfolio so I knew more people would see them other than just Ian and myself."

Kudos for Sara for being courageous enough to do this. The photos are beautiful.
