A Timid Peterborough Dog Named Oreo Will Be Looking For His Special Forever Home

On #BellLetsTalk day, The Peterborough Humane Society did their part to help reduce the stigma of discussing mental health by doing a Facebook post about a special 4-year-old Pointer/Retriever.

His name is Oreo, and he is gorgeous.

Like an Oreo cookie...

But as the Humane Society says, "Although you can't tell from his picture, he is currently very nervous and timid. He has been unsettled by the recent changes in his life. This adorable guy has not been with us long and is still adjusting to the busy environment."

The Humane Society says he will flourish in a forever home willing to help him build his confidence—he will help his owner's mental health, and that owner will in turn help Oreo with its mental health. The Humane Society are recommending a quieter home with no children.

Oreo is not yet up for adoption—"He will hopefully be up for adoption by the end of the week; he had surgery yesterday and needs a bit of time to recover," the Humane Society's Susan Dunkley tells PTBOCanada—but whoever gets him will get one special dog in need of lots of love.

Peterborough Fire Rescue Just Saved A Drowning Dog In The Icy Otonabee River

It was a surreal turn of events for CHEX Newswatch reporter Sarah Deeth on Thursday (January 12th). Deeth was on assignment as Peterborough Fire Rescue was doing ice rescue training on the Otonabee River.

She tweeted about it here...

But just moments after the training session wrapped, things got real when fire rescue responders got word of a dog that was in the icy river, and that would surely drown without an immediate rescue.

Deeth tweeted about it, along with a dramatic still from one of her camera shots for CHEX Newswatch of the cold, wet dog wrapped in a blanket after being rescued...

"I got to the scene as firefighters were bundling this little guy up," Deeth tells PTBOCanada. "He was shivering something terrible. And the firefighters were so kind, wrapping this little soul in blankets and speaking softly to keep him calm. It was just really nice to see."

In a message on her Facebook page, Deeth had this to say about the rescue...

Meet Prince The Adorably Grumpy Looking Cat At Peterborough Humane Society

UPDATE (January 5th): The Humane Society has tweeted the news that Prince has been adopted. Awesome!

ORIGINAL POST

There is a cat at the Peterborough Humane Society named Prince that is looking for his forever home. Prince happens to have some of the best, grumpiest facial expressions you'll ever see.

"Prince is still available for adoption," Susan Dunkley, Manager of Development and Outreach at Peterborough Humane Society, tells PTBOCanada. "He is three years and a bit—he is a himalayan mix."

Look at this dude...

If you're the lucky person or family that adopts this dude, you will be blessed with expressions like this...

A Chicken Was Found At A Tim Hortons In Fenelon Falls

The Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes gets many different types of pets brought to it. But this one seems a little different.

Yes, it seems a chicken found at a Tim Hortons in Fenelon Falls near Peterborough was dropped off there on Wednesday.

The Tim Hortons Chicken

The Tim Hortons Chicken

Apparently the chicken caused quite the traffic jam at the Tim Hortons. No word if it was lined up in the drive-thru.

So if anyone knows whose chicken it is, well she is now in Lindsay at the Humane Society headquarters.

The Humane Society says on its Facebook page post that it has lots of volunteers who would like her if she's not claimed.

Also, anyone who wants to use this obvious line we just thought of—"Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the Tim Hortons"—please do so.
