COCK by Michael Bartlett

John is confused. He has broken up with his boyfriend. He has fallen in love again...with a woman.

Mike Bartlett's punchy comedic drama puts you ringside as John wages war with his lovers, himself and a society that demands an answer to the question, “Who am I?”

New Stages is proud to begin its wildly successful Page on Stage Reading Series for the 2014-15 season with this highly acclaimed play, called “A smart, prickly and rewarding view of sexual and emotional confusion” as described by London's Evening Standard.

COCK premiered at the Royal Court theatre in London in 2009, winning the coveted Olivier Award. In 2012, it received its acclaimed North American premiere at the Duke in New York, and its Canadian premiere with Studio 180 in Toronto in April of this past year. Playwright Mike Bartlett is a highly prolific and successful playwright in the UK. COCK is the first of his works to be presented in Canada.

New Stages is known for its acclaimed Peterborough productions, such as Between the Sheets, Assassins, Falling: A Wake and Courageous. New Stages' Page on Stage Reading Series presents three plays annually in this format in the Nexicom Showplace Lounge. Each presentation is followed by a talkback session wherein audience members can talk with the actors freely about what they have seen and discuss the play.

COCK features the leading actor from the Toronto production, Andrew Kushnir, as well as Cyrus Lane, Ieva Lucs and New Stages Artistic Director, Randy Read.

Tickets are $20 regular admission and $10 students and art workers
