Celebrate nutrition and wellness with us !

Experience the wealth of local Holistic Health Practitioners and Energy Healers. Taste the healthy local food and discover the natural products all designed to help life thrive. Dandelion Day is part of the economic localization infrastructure evolving from Transition Town in support of Nutrition and Wellness. The third annual DD is a indoor/outdoor family friendly event with free admission. The local healers, nutritionists, wellness providers and vendors all accept Peterborough’s local currency, the Kawartha Loon as the official currency of the festival.
Universally despised as a pesky weed, the lowly dandelion is actually one of the more useful herbs. Eating the dandelion promotes bile secretion and the dried roots are very popular as a coffee substitute. The French dandelion “Thick-leaved” boasts tender fleshly leaves, topping all other fruits and vegetables for iron content. – Hint, hint expecting mothers.
Enjoy in a spring salad, or cooked like spinach. Treat as a biennial – sow one year, pick the next.

Early colonists brought dandelions to North American for the medicinal and nutritional value they provided settlers in a new land and so it is reflected with the intention of this extraordinary festival. It only seems natural that this community driven pioneering event be represented by one of the earliest transplanted settlers that has thrived into our modern day, a sunshiny yellow beacon of survival and humility.

Dandelion Day is hosted by Transition Town Peterborough in partnership with the Peterborough Chamber of Commerce Holistic Group.
