The Jungle Book

Arbor Theatre presents its 22nd annual holiday play “Jungle Book” at Showplace Performance Centre, 290 George St. N. on Thursday, December 7 at 7 p.m., (with a fundraising silent auction that night) and Friday, December 8, with doors opening at 6:15 p.m. both nights. Written and directed by Arbor Theatre's Artistic Director, Ray Henderson, with music by Beau Dixon and choreography by Madison Sheward, Rachel Froggot, and Kate Bemrose, this is a humorous adaptation of the classic tale by Rudyard Kipling that all ages can enjoy.

“This is a zany, high-energy show with some big dance numbers and the usual Arbor twists on this classic tale,” says Henderson. “There are some characters from the original book that weren’t in the movie, along with comedy that will appeal to all ages.”

This year’s production features a cast of 51 actors ranging in age from three to 70 years old. Asha Hall-Smith plays Mowgli, Aidan Wilson plays Baloo, and Dan Smith plays Shere Khan. School performances take place from Tuesday to Friday that week, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. each day. Tickets for the school and evening performances are still available.

“Every year I’m amazed at the brilliance of the performers and the enthusiasm of the audience members,” continues Henderson.

A silent auction will be held before the performance and during intermission at the Thursday evening show, with items donated by local businesses and organizations. The performances have been supported through funding from the City of Peterborough, the Peterborough Foundation, the Pilkington-Henniger Charitable Trust and the Lloyd Carr-Harris Foundation.

Tickets are $15 per adult, students/seniors $12 and $8 for children under 12 years old, available at Showplace by calling 705-742-7469 or online at www.showplace.org. Quantities of four or more tickets are available at $10 each through the box office, not online.
