PTBOCanada Feature Post: Grand Opening At Kawartha Montessori School's New Location November 7th

It’s not too often that you hear about a school changing locations. Logistics alone would usually be enough to put the kibosh on the idea. Kawartha Montessori School thinks outside of the box though, and around this time last year they were gifted with property just outside of town. They quickly jumped at the opportunity and decided to make an intense transition.

New campus open!

New campus open!

Woodview Public School was closed by the school board roughly 20 years ago, and had been sitting vacant on the property. Instead of knocking it down, KMS decided to work with the existing building to bring new life to it! Beginning this past March 2015, KMS got their hands just a little dirty and a little over 6 months later the Woodview campus was open to students to begin the school year! An aggressive timeline was followed to a "T" to complete the renovation and a small addition was included to complete the build.

On Saturday, November 7th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., they’ll celebrate by opening the doors at their new Woodview Campus (2247 Burnham Line, Otonabee) for a Grand Opening!

Literally everybody is invited, whether you're looking for Montessori for your child, if you went to the former Woodview School, or even if you're just curious to see the changes! This is an opportunity to check out the space, and for the school to acknowledge and thank all the people that turned this dream into a reality.

KMS has been a part of our community for over 30 years and has occupied a few different spaces along the way, but they have been a staple at their Cameron Street campus (580 Cameron St, Peterborough) for the last 20 years now.

The Cameron Campus is still operating during the transition and currently has a licensed program which serves children ages 2.5 to 6, while the Woodview Campus has students as young as age 3 through Grade 8. Both campuses offer fully accredited Montessori by the Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators.

The new campus sits on a beautiful 10 acre property offering plenty of space for the students to explore and play. It’s just a 10 minute drive from downtown Peterborough—depending on red lights!—and is easily accessible from all parts of our city, as well as Cavan, Lakefield, Millbrook and other surrounding areas. The capacity of the new campus and lot was almost too good to pass up and is a major upgrade in size which will allow KMS to continue to grow.

The concept of a Montessori education is still foreign to a lot of people. It differs from what is generally offered and the staff understand this. That being said, if you are interested in learning more about Montessori a great first step would be to attend their Public Open House at the Cameron Campus (580 Cameron St.) on Saturday, October 24th from 10 to noon. Staff will be on hand to answer any questions you might have about Montessori education!
