Peterborough Girl Fighting Leukemia, Here's How You Can Help

A GoFundMe page has been started for Peterborough's Lydia Black, an 11-year-old girl who is fighting leukemia.

Lydia is a funny, active and caring kid who has already gone through open heart surgery at the age of 5. On February 12th, she was airlifted to Toronto's Sick Kids Hospital with some major health concerns after a blood draw revealed abnormal and low white blood cell count.

She was diagnosed with a form of Leukemia, called myelodysplastic syndrome or MDS. This is incredibly rare for a child and will require a bone marrow transplant or chemo or both.

The GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money to support her family while she is going through treatment to pay general bills when the family has to take time off work and stay in Toronto when Lydia is in hospital there.

Lydia is a strong kid. She is a funny girl with a sharp wit beyond her years and she has a lot of diverse interests in her life—from riding her bike, to scoping out yard sales, to fishing, to soccer and dance. Her strength and determination will help her beat this!

She is currently at home on bed rest, with frequent visits to Hospital for Sick Children.

Prayers to Lydia and her family.
