PTBOCanada Featured Post: Summer Programs at Lakefield College School

This year, Lakefield College School is offering a variety of in-person, remote and blended learning programs to students seeking challenging and fun academic and recreational opportunities.

They can select from a range of unique programs to learn in and through the outdoors while enjoying their beautiful campus facilities and waterfront.

Learn more about these programs at their upcoming Summer Academy and Programs Virtual Open House!

Learning Languages in the Outdoors Lakefield College School's Learning Languages through the Outdoors program offers students a unique opportunity to earn a credit in four weeks. They will improve their English or French language proficiency while enjoying the benefits of a Canadian summer outdoor experience.

When students arrive on the LCS campus, they will be immersed in English or French, applying their new vocabulary and skills in outdoor classrooms and activities. They can enjoy paddling, camping, building fires, identifying native plants and animals and much more.

From Seed to Table – Adventures in Eco-FarmingThis program provides the opportunity to learn about food production and eco-farming through hands-on adventures on our school farm.

Students plant, nurture and harvest greens, root vegetables and more. They will learn first-hand about the business of running a farm, the value of sustainability and the joy of preparing and consuming food that they have grown.

Mornings and evenings are devoted to the farm program; afternoons are spent in recreational activities on their waterfront and campus. Students earn an Ontario Secondary School interdisciplinary course credit (IDC30).

Grove Prep for Grade 9In this five-day program, students will spend their mornings reviewing key math, science and English concepts and skills that are integral to a successful Grade 9 in Ontario.

Grove Prep will address the underlying skills gap between elementary school and high school courses that many students find challenging to overcome. Throughout the afternoon, students will choose from a wide array of exciting and engaging traditional camp activities and sports that could be a part of their high school experience.

The overnight program is rounded out by evening programming at their waterfront and on their beautiful rural campus.

LCS Dance Intensive In this five-day intensive, dancers will learn from experienced instructors (including Rachel and Geoff Bemrose) who have studied at nationally recognized and prestigious post-secondary dance programs.

Past instructors have included graduates of Alvin Ailey, Ryerson and Sheridan Musical Theatre. The instructors will provide technique and training in ballet, jazz, musical theatre, hip hop, lyrical and contemporary dance. Choreographers will work with students to create new works that they will have the opportunity to showcase.

LCS provides an open, creative and collaborative environment where dancers can individually express themselves through improvisational exercises.

Time will be allotted throughout the week to spend on-site at the Lakefield campus to draw inspiration from nature and strengthen a connection to the natural space.

The intensive will close with an event where dancers share what they create with the public. It promises to be a meaningful and lasting experience in nature. The kind of experience that stays with dancers throughout their lives and deepens their relationships with the natural world.
