PTBOCanada Featured Post: Summer Company Program
/The Business Advisory Centre at Peterborough & the Kawarthas Economic Development (PKED) is encouraging local applications for the Government of Ontario’s flagship youth entrepreneurship program, Summer Company.
The Summer Company Program is designed to encourage and enable young people living in the City of Peterborough and the County of Peterborough to open their own business.
This program will give youth aged 15 - 29 the opportunity and funding to kick start their own business, while gaining valuable insight from Business Advisory Centre staff and local business owners.
Participants will receive up to $3,000 that can be used to start their business as well as access to business workshops, training and resources.
Successful candidates from past years showcased a wide variety of products and services during Summer Company Program.
Participants from the 2021 Summer Company program started businesses that ranged from lawn care services to hand sewn products to farm animal fostering kits.
Drew McFadden started ‘Drews Chicks’, a service that allowed customers to ‘foster’ farm animals for two weeks.
“It was a great experience with some great people too, they walked you through all of the behind the scenes things, basically the things that most people don’t see in a business,” he said.
Those interested in applying should be:
residents of Ontario (who are also Canadian citizens or permanent residents)
youth between the ages of 15-29 years old (parent must sign the application if under 18)
not already running a business
not working another job or going to school for more than 12 hours a week during the program
