Peterborough Transit Making Service Changes Amid Challenges Starting Oct. 30

Peterborough Transit increasing the use of On Demand Transit Service in off-peak hours, trip time adjustments and reducing some community bus services starting on Oct. 30.

The changes are to help ensure consistent, reliable transit service while the service continues to deal with high rates of absenteeism and the challenging labour market according to the City of Peterborough. Those factors have contributed to the need to regularly cancel scheduled trips on routes.

On Demand Transit uses smart technology to move around the city, adjusting the bus route based on where customers are leaving from and where they need to get to.

It was a pilot program in a limited area of the City since March 30 and during Saturday evening service from 8 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. Beginning Oct. 30, On Demand Transit will replace some fixed routes throughout the City in off-peak hours to better serve customers.

Customers can download the PTBOnDemand app for their smartphones or tablets and create an account or call Peterborough Transit at 705-745-5801 to book a same-day trip.

When a customer requests a trip,  the system will look for the next trip available based on the customer’s trip pick-up and drop-off locations and number of people travelling together according to the City of Peterborough.

Customers who book their trip using the PTBOnDemand app are able to track the real-time location of the vehicle including information on when they will be picked up and dropped off.
