PTBOCanada Featured Post: Hear This Year's Successful Nomination Story of Lennox's Feel the Love Program With Peterborough Refrigeration

Every year, Peterborough Refrigeration accepts nominations to highlight outstanding community members and reward their generosity through Lennox’s Feel the Love program.

Feel the Love was founded in 2009 and has installed over 2,000 heating and cooling systems across North America! Peterborough Refrigeration has been accepting nominations from the community every year since 2020. The Feel The Love program aims to provide comfort and safety to deserving homeowners who need a helping hand in replacing their HVAC equipment.

“I like doing the Lennox Feel The Love program with Peterborough Refrigeration as I feel it helps to familiarize us with our community. It also helps to connect us to people in a way that will positively impact their lives,” said Chris Galachiuk, lead installer. “The people in our office do a really good job at seeking out the people that are most deserving of this program! I'm always excited to meet the recipients on the day of the installation and hear about their stories and lives!”

The program selects the chosen nominees and rewards them with a new heating or cooling system! Lennox will donate the equipment and Peterborough Refrigeration will supply the labour, time and materials to install it at no charge!

“When the Lennox Feel The Love program was first brought to my attention in 2020. I knew it was an important program that we had to participate in,” Brooke Conroy, head of the Lennox Feel The Love program at Peterborough Refrigeration. “When Gord agreed that it was, I was so excited to meet all the amazing people in our community while helping to change their lives, that's how I became the head of the program for Peterborough Refrigeration.”

This year’s nominees, winners and good Samaritans Ken and Anna Chesher, have endured many trials and tribulations. Still, their patience has finally rewarded them with a new furnace and air conditioner. Hear their story of how they helped their community for years, how they have been scammed out of a heating system and how it came to a happy ending by being the selected nominees of the Feel the Love Program.

For years, the Cheshers would offer help to their neighbours with simple chores such as lawn care, driveway shovelling and moving garbage/recycling to the curb.

According to the nomination submitted, the couple’s generosity would always extend to neighbours old and new: “The Cheshers were always the first people the neighbours would call when they needed help with anything. Sometimes, when neighbours would move away, they would even leave their contact information for the new homeowner in case they ever needed assistance with anything too.”

“I was born and raised in a small home in the north end and have lived in Peterborough my whole life. I now own a business and have a family here in the same community so it has always been important to me to give back to our community in as many ways as possible,” Gordon Conroy, Owner of Peterborough Refrigeration. “When you meet couples like Ken and Anna and hear the stories of how they have been taken advantage of, it's a great feeling to help restore their faith in humanity. That's why the Lennox Feel The Love program is so important and that's why we have participated in the program annually since 2020. Everyone on our staff looks forward to the program each year.”

However, Ken’s health has deteriorated over the past decade, including an infection and breaking his ankle on three separate occasions. As a result, he could not perform physical labour and required a cane to walk.

With the colder months approaching, Anna recognized their thermostat wasn’t working and eventually discovered that the furnace had stopped. The couple had to go through several contractors and businesses that left them unsatisfied or unfinished.

The couple heard Peterborough Refrigeration nominated them but initially thought it was a scam, especially after several past experiences they had. The Cheshers wanted a loan to pay for it but were informed by the bank that Feel the Love was legitimate. The couple were in disbelief when they learned that fact.

“It was hard to fathom. Nothing like this has ever happened before! I began to realize that this is real,” said Anna. “It was so out of the blue what with everything that was going on.”

On Oct. 13, the Cheshers were owners of a brand new furnace and air conditioner after Peterborough Refrigeration came to install them.

“Meeting families like the Cheshers and learning about all the good they've done throughout their lives makes it all the more rewarding when you get to bring that good back to them,” said Conroy.

Make sure to get your nominations for next year to highlight an outstanding community member with the Feel the Love program through Peterborough Refrigeration.

“By all means, call them, get your name in! I would highly recommend it. I would stand there and holler to everybody in the street and the neighbourhood if I could,” said Anna.
