Green Economy Peterborough (GEP) is both a business program and network that supports organizations in the Peterborough area, including the Kawarthas, Northumberland and Haliburton on their journey to a more sustainable operation. Their members are forward-thinking organizations working to bring positive change to both their business operations and the larger community.

When a business reduces emissions it not only benefits the environment, but it benefits the company.

GEP helps organizations to reduce energy, water, waste and other operational sources of greenhouse gas emissions, as well as promoting their activities and providing them with a network of peers to share knowledge and experience with.

Businesses gain from this in many ways, including improving their brand image, expanding their customer and client base, saving money and improving employee pride and retention.

There is a huge push for businesses to engage in issues like climate change and plastics reduction. Through a Green Economy membership there is an opportunity for businesses to show their commitment and actions to these issues publicly and get ahead of looming economic changes.

Through the program, Green Economy Peterborough helps businesses to take inventory of their greenhouse gas emissions, set reductions targets and develop a plan that identifies operational changes that meet the needs of the business while providing the greatest return on investment.

Green Economy Peterborough is supported by Green Economy Canada, a national organization that guides nine hubs based in communities across the country. Green Economy Canada works with Peterborough to analyze data and look for community and business opportunities, including funding for members that supports the installation of EV charging infrastructure at their businesses.

When joining Green Economy Peterborough, members receive:

  •   Tailored coaching

  •   Inventory & tracking tools

  •   Training & networking opportunities

  •   Support with promotion

  •   Features in our newsletter, website & social media

Green Economy Peterborough currently has 21 members that represent a diversity of sectors, including Rodlin Instruments, Peterborough Optometric, Wild Rock Outfitters, Engage Engineering, the Peterborough Golf & Country Club, Lake Edge Cottages, Jigsaw Organizing Solutions and more.

“In my business I’m always talking about sustainability but being part of Green Economy Peterborough will instill in people that this is absolutely my passion,” says Jigsaw Organizing Solutions owner Adeilah Dahlke. “While we’re already committed to reducing waste through the careful management and redirection of your stuff, we’re now going to do the same with the energy our business uses.”
