#PetLovePTBO Campaign Launches in Support of the Peterborough Humane Society

PTBOCanada has launched their #PetLovePTBO campaign, selling toques and dog toys in support of the Peterborough Humane Society.

Toques range from $20-$25 and toys are $15. $10 from every toque and toy will go towards the Humane Society and their new Animal Care Centre.

“We’re just about ready to open up the Peterborough Animal Care Centre right here on Technology Drive. It’s going to be absolutely amazing, it’s gone to revolutionize animal welfare right here in Peterborough, and we can’t wait to get things started,” says Shawn Morey, executive director at the Peterborough Humane Society.

The new facility is set to feature larger kennel spaces, larger cat suites, humane education programming, a spay/neuter clinic and a dog rehabilitation centre.

“The support from Kirtus and the folks at PTBOCanada has been amazing, as well as our whole community,” Morey continued. “This is a centre that was built for the community, by the community, and we’re just excited to be bringing it home.”

United Way Aids Over 48,000 People Last Season; Launches Final Leg of Three-Year Campaign to Raise $5 Million

As United Way Peterborough & District kicks off the final season of its three-year fundraiser of $5 million, they reported 48,914 people aided in 2021-22 during a campaign launch at the Healthy Planet Arena on Wednesday.

The charity invested $1,819,022 into the community, supporting 230 local programs and initiatives during that stretch.

"Whether the reach of someone that gives a dollar a week or the reach is someone that gives us $10,000 once a year, that people really impact individual lives with their donations so that's really powerful and humbling quite frankly and encouraging," said Jim Russell, United Way CEO.

The campaign began in 2020. United Way’s goal was to raise $5 million in three years. Russell would not disclose how much money has been raised so far when asked until the campaign closes due to determining to budget and discussing the allocation of the funds.

Campaigns included supplying menstrual hygiene products and personal care kits, stuffing and distributing backpacks, providing warm clothing for the winter season and more.

#PtboSignWars T-Shirts Now Available For Order (And You Don't Have To Go To Aisle 15 To Get Them)

It has been quite the week in Peterborough, Ontario as #PtboSignWars dominated the local social media scene and won over the hearts of the community at the same time.

PTBOCanada got the ball rolling last week after posting a sign war inspired from a town in Virginia. From there, they challenged a few local businesses to fire their signs up and get the #PtboSignWars started. 

Anden Kitchen & Bath, Merrett Home Hardware Building Centre and Friendly Fires were the first three Peterborough businesses to exchange shots. Five days and hundreds of fantastic witty signs later, #PtboSignWars was making headlines across the country on social media and has motivated other cities in Canada to do the same.

Pete Dalliday of Fresh Radio played a big role in the campaign, encouraging Peterborough to participate in #ptbosignwars and helping the “Kids For Lids” fundraiser that benefitted Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Peterborough.

“After 14 months of pandemic life this was exactly what the community needed,'' he said. “Reading the signs made me laugh out loud but reading the thousands of comments from viewers and listeners was perhaps my favourite part.” 

As always, PTBOCanada is always looking to give back to the community. Following a very successful PTBOCanada “Lids For Kids” campaign, Kirtus Evoy, owner and Publisher of PTBOCanada, is pleased to announce that even more money will be raised for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Peterborough

$10 from every T-shirt sold will go directly to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Peterborough as they will benefit from all the proceeds. A (Bloody) Tale From the Campaign Trail In the Patch

A story from Peterborough Mayoralty candidate Daryl Bennett on the first day of his team canvassing in a neighbourhood in East City:

“A homeowner called me on Wednesday morning to ask if I was the Daryl Bennett who was running for Mayor, and whether I had canvassers going door to door on her East City street on Tuesday night. I replied that I did.
 
The caller told me that she and her husband had been out, and when they returned home they found our brochure in her mailbox. Later that evening, she heard an odd noise at her front door, and collected her husband to investigate it. They discovered a man on all fours with a pail and scrub brush cleaning her front porch. When she questioned him, she discovered that he and his wife were both canvassers of ours who had visited the house earlier in the day, at which point his wife had cut her arm on the front door, requiring a hospital visit and 14 stitches. The man was returning to clean the blood from the front porch!
 
When the cleaning was completed, the canvasser proceeded to deliver his pitch in support of our campaign. Now that’s dedication!”
