Peterborough resident Bryan Weir won a $100,000 prize on an OLG Bingo Doubler ticket in the Instant Gift Pack (Game #1929) announced Friday.

Weir, 62, says he's been playing the lottery for 40 years.

“This ticket was a stocking stuffer from my wife,” he shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect his winnings.

He discovered his big win the week after Christmas. “I checked my tickets at the store and when I saw the $100,000 prize amount, I was so shocked! I was shaking,” he said. “I went to a second retailer to confirm the win and I thought 'Wow, this is real!' My wife and I just looked at each other with excitement.”

Weir says when he unexpectedly stopped by his daughter’s house to share the news about his win, she jokingly said to him, 'What brings you over? Did you win the lottery?' He laughed and responded with “Yes!”

Weir says he plans to put his winnings toward home improvements and will save the rest.

“Think of your best day and multiply that by 10. That’s how I feel,” he smiled.

The winning ticket was purchased at Lansdowne Sobey's on Lansdowne Street in Peterborough. The Instant Gift Pack was available during the holiday season for $20 a play, and the odds of winning any prize were 1 in 3.19.

Local Man Wins $1 Million on MAXMILLIONS Lotto Max Draw

Peterborough’s Shawn Mowry has become the city’s newest millionaire as he won a $1 million MAXMILLIONS prize for the Oct. 7 LOTTO MAX draw announced on Wednesday.

The 51-year-old father says he has been a regular lottery player for a decade.

"This win is a huge opportunity for the future of my family," said Mowry. "It will be invested and used for education and retirement. I'd love to plan a family trip to celebrate this win with my wife and children. Maybe a European adventure to visit family."

His winning ticket was purchased at Steven's Your Independent Grocer on Wellington Street in Bracebridge.

"When I saw the ‘Big Winner’ screen, I thought my heart had stopped," said Mowry. "I scanned it again and my palms were sweaty. I checked it a few more times to make sure it was real. My wife could tell something was up as soon as she saw me. I brought her to the store to show her the ticket checker.

Peterborough Woman Takes Home $50,000 With Ontario 49

Barbara Gautreau of Peterborough is celebrating after winning $50,000 with Ontario 49.

Gautreau, 60, who plays the lottery weekly says this is her first major win.

She checked her ticket using the OLG app.

"It was pretty dark, so I had to scan it a few times to see if it was real. Then I checked OLG.ca to confirm what I was seeing," she said. "I went right to the store to validate the ticket – it was so fun.”

She says her son was the first person she told.

"He couldn't believe it and is beyond happy for me.”

She plans to pay some bills, take a trip in the winter, and treat her family to a nice dinner.

Peterborough Woman Will Go Back To School With $100,000 Scratch Ticket Win

Leslie Coughlin of Peterborough is $100,000 richer after winning the top prize with Instant Mystery Multiplier.

Coughlin, a 35-year-old retail worker, says she has been playing INSTANT games regularly for 10 years.

"My favourite games are the $10 and $30 tickets. I looked up the odds for this game and thought they were good, so I started buying them regularly," she said.

She discovered her win after scanning the ticket in store.

"I thought I won $10,000 at first. I screamed and I called my mom right away. I went home to take a closer look and realized I won $100,000 – it felt unreal!"

She plans to share her win with her mom and brother.

"When my aunt was alive, she won $77,777 on an INSTANT ticket and shared with my mom. I plan to keep the legacy going and share with my cousin," she said. "Then I will save the rest and go back to school."

The winning ticket was purchased at Circle K on King Street.

Peterborough Woman $100,000 Richer After ENCORE Win

Carla Guest of Peterborough matched the last six of seven ENCORE numbers in exact order in the July 12 LOTTO MAX draw and won $100,000.

Guest say she is an occasional lottery player and she typically plays LOTTO MAX but doesn't always add ENCORE.

"This is my first big win," she said.

"It was quite the surprise," she said. "I called my husband to tell him, and he was just as shocked as me."

She plans to pay some bills and invest in her future with her win.

"I'd also like to travel and visit family. It's still entirely unbelievable. This will definitely enhance my life," said Guest.

Peterborough Woman Hits the Jackpot And Wins $1 Million

Artibello, who is retired, says she has been playing the lottery since LOTTO MAX launched.

The avid sewer and crafter said she checked her tickets at home when she discovered she won big.

"I kept looking and double checking the numbers online. I just couldn't believe it," she said. "I told my sister and she said, 'Stop –you're lying!'"

Artibello plans to share her win with family.

"I will share with my sister, nieces and nephews and my good friend. I will also enjoy a more comfortable retirement and do some work around the house."

Lindsay Wife and Husband Hit Lottery Jackpot of Over $21 Million

Gary and Karry Stata have become Lindsay’s newest jackpot winners claiming $21,593,703,80 from the Ontario Lottery Gaming’s (OLG) Lotto 6/49 from their Feb. 26 draw.

The married couple of 45 years discovered their win while watching the news.

“We only play Lotto 6/49,” said Gary while collecting the winnings. “This is our first big win.”

He purchased his lottery ticket at Tom’s Variety on Kent Street in Lindsay after seeing an advertisement for the jackpot.

“I was watching the news and saw that someone in our community had a winning ticket,” explained Gary. “I was at home when I compared our numbers to the winning numbers on OLG.ca and noticed they matched. I can’t even tell you how many times we looked at this ticket and thought something must be wrong.”

Karry called her daughter immediately after discovering the couple’s win.

“We called our daughter right away. She could tell by my voice that something was up,” exclaimed Karry. “She was just as shocked as we were.”

The couple said winning the lottery was a surreal moment and still in disbelief.

“It’s still hard to imagine this is where we are,” said Gary.

“We’re just regular Kraft dinner and fried bologna people,” laughed Karry.

Peterborough Man and Friend Combine for Lottery Winnings of $100,000

Saying “yes” to ENCORE paid off for Peterborough’s Jesus Jr. Calicdan his friend Eddie Valenzuela of Kamloops, B.C. as they won $100,000 on Lotto 6/49 Encore announced Friday.

The two matched the last six of seven ENCORE numbers in exact order on the Feb. 23 draw.

The high school friends said they decided to join forces and play the lottery together while discussing their lottery dreams.

"We've been playing for about four months. Eddie lives in British Columbia and plays tickets for the both of us too," said Jr. Calicdan.

Both men decided to celebrate their win by taking a trip back home to the Philippines.
