Peterborough Couple's Rescue Dog Plays Key Role In Surprise Engagement Proposal At Jackson's Park

Niki Allday and Jesse Guerin have a real love for animals—particularly rescue dogs. "We are both very passionate about animals, and both owners of rescues," Allday says. "Jesse adopted his dog (Tulo, named after Toronto Blue Jay shortstop Troy Tulowitzki) from St Martin through Cavan Hills Vet and mine (Zoey) was rescued north of Bancroft."

Given that their first date was at an animal shelter and they have these rescue dogs Tulo and Zoey, it seemed doggone fitting that Jesse would use one of them as a key prop for a surprise wedding proposal he gave Niki on Saturday (October 22nd) at Jackson's Park.

Niki posted about the sweet moment on her Facebook page...

"He definitely took me by surprise and swept me off my feet," Niki tells PTBOCanada of the romantic proposal. "I feel like the luckiest girl in the world. The way he proposed, the ring, shows how he knows me inside and out."

Peterborough Hound Named Odie Not Overly Excited About Fox Being In Backyard

Gwyneth Jones witnessed a real life fox and hound in her backyard Thursday morning (May 19th) on River Road just north of Peterborough—except her hound, Odie, just didn't seem nearly as interested as the fox.

The view from Jones' back patio of the interaction...

"At first I was worried the fox would attack—I think it's a mama and there may be some kits in the woods," Jones tells PTBOCanada. "It's too big to be a baby, but was definitely curious and maybe even wanting to play."

The fox certainly looked like it wanted to do something gauging from this picture Jones took...

Odie ignores fox

So why would 10-year-old Odie ignore the fox? Jones isn't sure.

"I was stunned at my dog's reaction, or lack thereof," Jones tells PTBOCanada. "It's almost like he didn't acknowledge this was an animal. He would have freaked if a dog was on our property, and he chases squirrels and rabbits. It was very odd."

Quentin Has A New Little Buddy At The Zoo From Edmonton

The Riverview Park & Zoo has welcomed a new addition.

Yao-Ming (or "Awesome"), their new yearling Sichuan takin, just arrived from the Edmonton Valley Zoo.

Yao-Ming

Now Yao-Ming just had his first meeting with Quentin Takin-tino—who came to the zoo back in 2014 from Assiniboine Park & Zoo in Winnipeg—and Yao-Ming appears to be a little nervous.

Yao-Ming and Quentin meeting

They're both kind of figuring each other out...

But the zoo tells PTBOCanada everything is going well between them so far, and we're sure they'll be besties in no time.

Heck, they're already posing for the camera (selfies could be next, and a Twitter account)...

In 2005, Knight was purchased by the Knights of Columbus for the Peterborough Police Service. Knight had an amazing eight year career working on the road with Constable Brent Mason before retiring in 2012.

Knight was in his 13th year and had been with DC Mason for nearly 11 years (4 days short). Knight enjoyed his four years of well deserved retirement in the company of DC Mason and will be sadly missed by so many in the community.
