Peterborough Petes Unveil Full Regular Season Schedule For 2026-27 Season

The Peterborough Petes have released their full Ontario Hockey League schedule for the 2026-27 season.

The Petes will open the 2026–27 season at home on Sept. 17 against the Kingston Frontenacs and wrap up the campaign on March 21 in Ottawa.

The full team schedule can be found online. Theme and community nights will be announced in the coming weeks.

Peterborough Native Shawn Evans Among Finalists for NLL Hall of Fame Induction

One of the most accomplished players in National Lacrosse League history could soon add another major achievement to his résumé.

Peterborough native Shawn Evans has been named one of 18 nominees for the National Lacrosse League's Hall of Fame Class of 2026. The league announced its nominees this week, with Evans among five offensive players being considered for three induction spots.

Evans is joined in the offensive player category by Dan Dawson, Jordan Hall, Jeff Shattler and Mark Steenhuis. The defensive player nominees are Sandy Chapman, Billy Dee Smith and Geoff Snider, while the veteran category features Mike Accursi, Jake Bergey, Glenn Clark, Duane Jacobs, Gavin Prout, Brian Voelker and Cam Woods. The media builder nominees are Leif Elsmo, John Gurtler and Craig Rybcznski.

Few players on the ballot can match the numbers Evans put up during his 17-season NLL career.

The former Rochester, Calgary, New England, Buffalo, Halifax and Vancouver star finished with 1,358 regular-season points, the sixth-highest total in league history. His 879 assists rank fifth all-time, while his 479 goals place him as the league's top 10 highest scorer. He also appeared in 270 regular-season games, which ranks as the 10th most ever played in the NLL.

Evans captured an NLL championship with the Rochester Knighthawks in 2007 and was named the league's Most Valuable Player twice, earning the award in 2013 and 2015. His 130-point season in 2015 set a new league record at the time and remains one of the highest single-season totals in NLL history.

Selected second overall by Rochester in the 2005 NLL Draft, Evans quickly established himself as one of the league's most dynamic offensive players. The Peterborough product retired from the NLL following the 2023 season after amassing 1,481 combined regular-season and playoff points.

Hall of Fame voting is scheduled to take place in early July, with the National Lacrosse League expected to announce its Class of 2026 shortly afterward. Eight inductees will be selected this year, including three players from the offensive category, one defensive, three veterans and one builder from the media category.

If elected, Evans would become the third Peterborough native inducted into the NLL Hall of Fame, joining Tracey Kelusky and John Grant Jr., who were inducted in 2016 and 2021 respectively.

It’s Official: Bobby Allan’s Name Set to Become Part of Peterborough History

Peterborough City Council has approved a motion to rename the newly renovated bowl at Knights of Columbus Park in honour of lacrosse legend Bobby Allan.

The decision comes as major renovations continue at the Park Street facility, including upgrades to the bowl's floor and boards.

Allan grew up just a few blocks from Knights of Columbus Park and spent countless hours playing lacrosse there before building one of the most accomplished careers in the sport's history.

He won four Mann Cup championships as a player in 1954, 1956, 1962 and 1966, and was later inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame, the Peterborough and District Sports Hall of Fame, and the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame, becoming the first lacrosse player to receive that honour.

Allan also found success behind the bench, coaching teams in Peterborough and Philadelphia, leading Canada's national field lacrosse team to a world championship in 1970, and guiding the Peterborough Lakers to a Mann Cup title in 1973.

Council's approval directs that the newly renovated facility be renamed the Bobby Allan Bowl, recognizing his lasting impact on lacrosse in Peterborough and across Canada.

Former Peterborough Pete Jordan Staal wins Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe Trophy

A former Peterborough Petes star has reached the top of the hockey world once again, helping the Carolina Hurricanes win the Stanley Cup while earning playoff MVP honours.

Jordan Staal and the Carolina Hurricanes captured the Stanley Cup on Sunday night with a 3-0 win over the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 6 of the Final. Staal was also awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the NHL playoffs, becoming the oldest player ever to win the award.

The 37-year-old captain played a key role throughout Carolina's championship run, contributing offensively while continuing to handle many of the team's toughest defensive assignments. He finished the playoffs as one of the Hurricanes' most important players and was recognized for his impact on both ends of the ice.

Staal spent two seasons with the Peterborough Petes from 2004 to 2006. During his final season in maroon and white, he helped lead the club to an OHL championship.

In 134 regular season games with the Petes, Staal recorded 37 goals and 59 assists for 96 points. He added 15 goals and 11 assists in 33 playoff games.

Following his OHL career, Staal was selected second overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2006 NHL Draft. He stepped directly into the NHL as an 18-year-old and helped the Penguins win the Stanley Cup in 2009.

Staal's latest championship adds another chapter to a hockey career that began in Peterborough nearly two decades ago. His name is now attached to both the Stanley Cup and the Conn Smythe Trophy after a standout playoff performance with Carolina.

Staal isn't the only member of his family with ties to Peterborough. Older brother Eric Staal also spent time with the Petes before going on to a successful NHL career, winning the Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes in 2006.

Petes Add 14 More Prospects to Complete 2026 OHL Priority Selection

The Peterborough Petes rounded out their 2026 draft class Saturday, selecting 14 players on the second day of the OHL Priority Selection.

After choosing Vaughan Kings forward Landon Roulston in the first round Friday night, the Petes continued adding to their prospect pool with players from Ontario and the United States.

The club's first pick of the day came in the third round when Peterborough selected Toronto Marlboros right winger Mason Quinn 59th overall.

Lakers Add Offensive Firepower with Acquisition of Ryan Lanchbury

The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers have bolstered their lineup with the addition of one of the top lacrosse players on the planet.

The Lakers announced they have acquired Ryan Lanchbury in a three-team trade involving Oakville and Cobourg.

As part of the deal, Cobourg sent Alex Simmons and a second-round draft pick to Oakville in exchange for Jason Knox. Cobourg also receives Peterborough's first-round picks in 2028 and 2029.

Lanchbury, a 28-year-old right-handed forward from Burlington, is expected to add another offensive weapon to the Lakers' lineup. The playmaking specialist last competed in Major Series Lacrosse in 2024, when he led Oakville in scoring with 76 points in just 15 games.

The six-foot, 175-pound forward is coming off another strong season in the National Lacrosse League with the Rochester Knighthawks. He finished the regular season with 24 goals and 82 assists for 106 points, ranking first in the league in assists and seventh in points.

Lakers head coach Mike Hasen is familiar with Lanchbury from their time together in Rochester and believes the veteran forward will make an immediate impact.

“Ryan’s a great teammate that has great lacrosse IQ, vision and floor awareness. He’ll come in and compete, take some of the pressure that Robbie Hellyer has been carrying and will make our lefties better,” Hasen said.

The acquisition gives Peterborough another high-end offensive option on the right side, alongside stars such as Rob Hellyer and Braedon Saris, as the team continues its push through the Major Series Lacrosse season.

Since being selected second overall in 2021, Lanchbury has averaged over five points per game during four seasons in the National Lacrosse League with Georgia and Rochester, recording 326 points in 63 career games.

Petes Add Size and Skill with First-Round Pick Landon Roulston

The Peterborough Petes used the 13th overall pick in the OHL Priority Selection to add a big centre with a proven scoring touch in Landon Roulston.

The 16-year-old from Oakville stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 187 pounds, giving him an imposing presence down the middle of the ice.

Roulston spent the 2025-26 season with the Vaughan Kings U16 AAA program in the GTHL, where he put together a strong offensive campaign. In 33 games, he scored 18 goals and added 20 assists for 38 points. He also recorded 34 penalty minutes.

“We were very excited to be able to select Landon Roulston with our first pick of tonight’s draft,” said Petes General Manager and Vice President of Operations Michael Oke in a press release. “Landon is a big, strong forward who plays a good two way game and loves to compete. He’s a player we followed closely throughout the season with Vaughan, and we’re looking forward to seeing him on the ice at development camp next week.”

The right-shot centre averaged more than a point per game while helping lead one of the top U16 programs in the province. His combination of size, offensive production, and experience in the highly competitive GTHL made him an attractive option for the Petes in the opening round.

As he prepares to make the jump to the OHL level, Roulston gives Peterborough another young piece to build around for the future. With his size, skill, and ability to contribute offensively, he'll be a player Petes fans will be watching closely in the years ahead.

The Peterborough Petes have been recognized by the Ontario Hockey League for their success off the ice, earning one of the league's top business awards for the 2025-26 season.

Ten business awards were presented by the league, with the Petes among the organizations recognized for contributing to the continued growth and success of the Ontario Hockey League both on and off the ice.

The Petes were named recipients of the OHL Retail Performance Award during the league's annual business meetings, where organizations from across the league were honoured for achievements in areas including retail, community engagement, broadcasting and fan experience.

According to the OHL, the award recognizes the Petes' strong merchandise sales, innovative retail initiatives and ongoing efforts to enhance the fan experience.

The league noted that the Petes have established themselves as one of the OHL's leading merchandise operations through a combination of creative approaches and consistent results.

The award also highlights the work of Mark Million, director of merchandise & community growth for the Petes, whose leadership was credited with helping drive merchandise growth in Peterborough while supporting broader league initiatives aimed at strengthening retail operations across the OHL.

While championships are won on the ice, the latest honour shows the Petes are also finding success behind the scenes as they continue to build and engage their fan base.

Peterborough Petes Exchange Draft Picks With Ottawa 67's

The Peterborough Petes have exchanged draft picks with the Ottawa 67’s, announced on Thursday.

Peterborough acquired a sixth-round pick in the 2026 OHL Priority Selection from the Ottawa 67’s in exchange for the Soo Greyhounds ' sixth-round pick in 2029.

The Petes currently hold the 13th overall pick in this year’s OHL Priority Selection on Friday at Slush Puppie Place in Kingston.

Lakers Bounce Back With Road Win Over Brooklin

A strong start and standout goaltending helped the Peterborough Century 21 Lakers earn an 8-4 victory over Brooklin on Wednesday night in Whitby.

The Lakers responded in a big way after last week's loss to Brooklin, scoring four times in the opening minutes and never looking back in an 8-4 win at Iroquois Park Sports Centre.

Peterborough wasted little time taking control. Rob Hellyer opened the scoring just 27 seconds into the game before Mike Robinson added another 10 seconds later. Colton Armitage scored his first Major Series Lacrosse goal to make it 3-0, and Hellyer struck again shortly after to extend the lead to four.

Brooklin battled back but could not get any closer than three goals the rest of the way.

Hellyer led the Lakers offence with six points, scoring three goals and adding three assists. Robinson finished with four points, while Armitage scored twice and added an assist. Brad McCulley also found the back of the net.

Drew Hutchison was outstanding in goal, turning aside 45 shots as Peterborough delivered its strongest defensive performance of the season. The Lakers held Brooklin scoreless on all four of its power-play opportunities.

DJ Clark also made his season debut for the Lakers and recorded an assist in the victory.

The win improved Peterborough's record after consecutive losses and gave the team a measure of revenge against the same Brooklin squad that defeated them at the Peterborough Memorial Centre the previous week.

The Lakers return to action next Thursday when they visit Brampton, then a stop in Cobourg on Sunday (June 21), before returning home for another game against Brooklin on Thursday, June 25.
