Peterborough Lakers U11 3 Capture Gloucester Tournament Championship

The Peterborough Lakers U11 3 team brought home championship honours from the 2026 U11 Gloucester Ray Broadworth Memorial Tournament after a perfect weekend on the floor.

The Lakers finished the tournament with a 5-0-0 record to claim first place in the U11 division.

Peterborough opened the tournament on Friday, July 3 with a 5-3 win over the Nepean Knights U11 2 before continuing their strong start on Saturday with a 17-1 victory over the Kingston Krossfire.

The Lakers added another win later that day with a 20-2 result against the Gloucester Griffins U11 2.

On Sunday, Peterborough wrapped up the tournament schedule with two more victories, earning a 12-3 win over Gloucester before closing out the weekend with a 9-5 win against the Nepean Knights U11 2.

With five wins in five games, the Lakers secured the tournament title and celebrated their championship victory as the 2026 U11 Gloucester Ray Broadworth Memorial Tournament champions.

Drew Hutchison Spectacular Once Again as Lakers Overpower Kodiaks in Dominant Win at the PMC

A seven-goal second period carried the Peterborough Century 21 Lakers to an 11-3 win over the Cobourg Kodiaks on Thursday night in Peterborough.

The Lakers improved to 6-5 on the Major Series Lacrosse season and remain in third place in the standings. The win also split the season series with Cobourg, with each team now holding one victory ahead of the rubber match on July 23 at the Memorial Centre.

Peterborough led 2-1 after the first period with goals from Frank Coyle and Brad McCulley.

The game broke open in the second period, where the Lakers scored seven unanswered goals while keeping Cobourg off the board. Four of those goals came on the power play.

McCulley finished with a four-point night, scoring twice and adding three assists. Ryan Lanchbury had a seven-point performance with two goals and five assists, while Braedon Saris also scored twice and added four assists.

Frank Coyle, Thomas Hoggarth, Justin Sykes, Adam Jay and Daniel Clark also scored for Peterborough. Clark’s goal came shorthanded and was his first of the season.

Goaltender Drew Hutchison stole the show for the second Thursday in a row, making another 50 saves in net, and was once again named the game’s first star.

The Lakers head to Six Nations on Tuesday before returning home next Thursday to host Owen Sound.

Peterborough's Presence Will Be Felt on International Stage With Four Locals Headed to Tokyo for World Lacrosse Championships

Two of Peterborough's top lacrosse players are headed back to the world stage, and they'll have some familiar faces alongside them when Team Canada takes aim at gold in Japan this summer.

Peterborough natives Erica Evans and Lexi Jenkins have been named to Canada's roster for the 2026 World Lacrosse Women's Championship, which will take place in Tokyo from July 24 to Aug. 2.

The tournament will feature the world's top women's field lacrosse nations, with Canada entering the event ranked No. 2 in the world behind the United States and looking to capture its first-ever world championship gold medal.

For Evans, the selection marks another chapter in an already decorated international career.

One of Canada's most accomplished players, Evans helped the national team win silver medals at the 2017 and 2022 World Championships and was named to the All-World Team in 2017. She also earned silver with Canada's women's box team at the 2024 World Championship and added another silver medal at the 2025 Pan-American Lacrosse Championship, where she was named to the all-tournament team.

The Peterborough product also starred for Canada at the 2025 World Games in China, collecting 26 points and earning All-World Team honours as Canada claimed silver.

Jenkins will be making her senior world championship debut after emerging as one of the country's top young talents.

The Peterborough defender helped Canada win silver at the 2024 World Lacrosse Women's U20 Championship in Hong Kong and previously captured gold and bronze medals with Team Ontario at national championships. She also served as captain of Team Ontario at the 2022 Brogden Cup.

Peterborough's influence on Team Canada extends beyond the players on the field.

Peterborough native Allison Daley will serve as the team's co-head coach and general manager. Daley has spent more than a decade with Canada's women's program as both a player and coach and helped the national team win multiple silver medals during her playing career before moving behind the bench.

Joining her on staff is Peterborough's Jocelyne Lemay, who will serve as team manager. Lemay is no stranger to the international stage, having won gold with Canada at the 2015 Women’s Field Lacrosse World Championship in Scotland and also serving as the team manager for the 2024 U20 team that won silver in Hong Kong.

Lacrosse Canada has also launched a fundraising campaign to help support the team's journey to Tokyo, with donations helping cover travel, equipment, performance services and competition preparation.

With two players and two staff members representing the city, Peterborough will have plenty of reasons to follow Canada's pursuit of gold this summer.

Peterborough Lakers Ship Local Defenceman to Brooklin L.C. For Two Draft Picks

The Peterborough Lakers have traded defenceman Broedie Birkhof to the Brooklin L.C. for a fourth- and fifth-round draft pick in 2028, announced on Thursday morning.

Birkhof was originally traded to the Lakers along with his brother Dustyn and a 2026 third-round pick from the Kodiaks for Andrew Vradenburg, Cole Begley, Payton Tasse and 2026 second-round pick that originally belonged to Brampton in June of last year.

The Peterborough native previously played for the Cobourg Kodiaks and Six Nations Chiefs. He has also suited up for several Arena Lacrosse League teams, including the Peterborough Timbermen in their inaugural season.

Outside of lacrosse, he was the former strength and conditioning coach for the CFL’s Ottawa RedBlacks from 2004-05 and had the same role with the Peterborough Petes from May 2022 to March 2024.

NFL Dream Comes Home as Jared Wayne Gives Back to Young Peterborough Players

Peterborough's own Jared Wayne spent part of his off-season back where his football journey began, helping inspire the next generation of local athletes.

The Houston Texans wide receiver hosted the first-ever Hometown Huddle Youth Football Camp on Saturday at Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School, welcoming children between the ages of eight and 13 for a free morning of football instruction and fun.

The event gave young players the chance to learn directly from Peterborough's first NFL player, who grew up playing in the local football community before starring at the University of Pittsburgh and eventually reaching the professional ranks.

Camp participants also received an unexpected treat when Wayne was joined by Texans teammate and Pro Bowl receiver Nico Collins, who took part in the instruction and spent time with the young athletes.

For Wayne, the camp was about more than football. It was an opportunity to return to the community that helped shape his career and show local kids that reaching the highest levels of the sport is possible.

The inaugural event brought together football fundamentals, encouragement and plenty of smiles, creating a memorable day for the young players who shared the field with two members of the Houston Texans.

Petes Add Big Czech Forward Patrik Poláček in CHL Import Draft

The Peterborough Petes have added some size and international talent to their prospect pool, selecting Czech forward Patrik Poláček in the 2026 CHL Import Draft.

The Petes used their lone pick in Tuesday's draft to select the 6'5", 194 pound forward with the 37th overall selection.

General Manager and Vice President of Operations Michael Oke described Poláček as a big, strong player who brings a physical style, forechecks hard and isn't afraid to drive to the net.

Oke said the Petes' coaching staff and scouts had the opportunity to watch the Czech forward both in person and on video during various international events and believe he possesses many of the qualities the organization looks for in a Peterborough Pete.

Poláček is coming off an impressive season with HC Sparta Praha's U17 team, where he finished second in the Extraliga dorostu U17 league scoring race. He recorded 36 goals and 31 assists for 67 points in 42 games.

He elevated his game even further in the playoffs, leading the league with 17 points in 12 postseason games while helping Sparta Praha capture a championship.

The forward also appeared in four games with Sparta Praha's U20 team, collecting two goals and three assists.

On the international stage, Poláček has represented his home country of the Czech Republic at the U17 level. He suited up for the national program in 25 games during the 2025-26 season, recording 15 points, and also helped Czechia reach the bronze medal game at the 2025 U17 World Hockey Challenge.

The selection gives the Petes another intriguing prospect to watch as the organization continues to build for the future.

Rock Roll Past Lakers in Oakville Monday Night

The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers erased a three-goal deficit but couldn't keep pace down the stretch in a 13-9 loss to the Oakville Rock on Monday night.

The defeat dropped Peterborough back to .500 at 5-5 on the Major Series Lacrosse season. The Lakers remain in third place in the standings, four points behind Oakville.

Peterborough led 1-0 and 3-2 early before the Rock closed the opening period with a 5-3 advantage. Oakville extended the lead to three in the second period before the Lakers battled back.

Holden Cattoni, playing in his first game back after missing the last month with an injury, scored his third goal of the night to spark the comeback. Justin Sykes and Jordan Stouros followed with goals to tie the game 6-6 midway through the second period.

The momentum, however, shifted back to Oakville. The Rock outscored Peterborough 7-3 the rest of the way, including a 5-2 edge in the third period, to secure the victory.

Cattoni led the Lakers with three goals in his return to the lineup, but he left the game after completing his hat trick and did not return. Thomas Hoggarth added three points on a goal and two assists, while Ryan Lanchbury picked up five assists. Stouros scored his first goal of the season, and Sykes, Brad McCulley and Dylan Hutchison also found the back of the net.

Nick Rose started in goal and made 35 saves before leaving the game after a collision at the end of the second period. Deacan Knott stopped 12 shots in relief.

The Lakers also welcomed defenceman Adam Jay back to the lineup after he missed the last month due to injury.

Former Laker Landon Kells made 46 saves for Oakville, while Josh Dawick, Sam LeClair and Carson Moyer each recorded hat tricks for the Rock.

Peterborough returns home Thursday night to host the Cobourg Kodiaks at the Peterborough Memorial Centre for Sport a Rainbow Night.

Otonabee's Colin Fitzgerald Hears His Name Called at NHL Draft

A local hockey journey reached another milestone on Saturday as Otonabee's Colin Fitzgerald was selected by the St. Louis Blues in the seventh round of the 2026 NHL Draft.

The Blues picked Fitzgerald with the 203rd overall selection, making him one of the newest members of the organization's prospect pool.

The 18-year-old forward is no stranger to hockey fans in Peterborough. Fitzgerald was selected third overall by the Peterborough Petes in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection and spent parts of two seasons with the club before being traded to the Soo Greyhounds in November.

In 72 games with the Petes, Fitzgerald recorded 18 goals and 23 assists for 41 points.

THE NHL WASTED NO TIME GETTING COLIN FITZGERALD OVER TO THE EASPORTS SCANNING MACHINE TO GET HIS FACE VIDEO GAME READY

After being traded to the Greyhounds, the six-foot-two, 212-pound forward appeared in 39 regular-season games and put up 20 points on nine goals and 11 assists. Overall, he finished the 2025-26 season with 15 goals and 18 assists for 33 points in 63 games.

Prior to his jump to the OHL, he played his minor hockey in Peterborough, playing his final season with the U16 AAA Petes, racking up 64 points in 35 games.

Fitzgerald's strong season also earned him an invitation to the NHL Scouting Combine, where he was one of just 20 OHL players invited. He was ranked 82nd among North American skaters in NHL Central Scouting's final rankings.

On the international stage, Fitzgerald has represented Canada twice, helping the country win bronze at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup and silver at the 2024 U17 World Challenge.

The draft selection marks another major step in the young forward's hockey career and gives Peterborough-area fans another local player to follow as he works toward his NHL dream.

Jr. C Lakers One Win Away From Advancing to Next Round

Peterborough earned an 8-4 victory in Game 1 at the Healthy Planet Arena on Saturday before picking up an 8-7 road win in Game 2 on Sunday to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series.

Braden Hockaday picked up the win in net in the opener, while Chase Brown earned the victory in Game 2.

The Lakers led 8-3 in the third period on Sunday before Huntsville scored four times to make things interesting. Kyson Campbell's goal with 5:52 remaining stood up as the game winner.

The series returns to the Peterborough Memorial Centre for Game 3 on Friday at 8 pm. A Lakers victory would send Peterborough to the second round.

Peterborough Petes Forward Adam Levac Selected 108th Overall In the NHL Draft By the Detroit Red Wings

It was an 18th birthday to remember for Peterborough Petes forward Adam Levac, as the Detroit Red Wings selected him 108th overall in round four at the 2026 NHL Entry Draft in Buffalo, N.Y. on Saturday.

Levac becomes the second Pete to be drafted in the 2026 NHL Draft, with Adam Novotny being taken 24th overall by the Vancouver Canucks on Friday night.

“It’s an honour and a dream come true to be selected in the NHL Draft by the Red Wings,” exclaimed Levac. “This is a great birthday gift and I’m excited to be able to enjoy it with all of my family.”

The Embrun, Ont. native was originally selected by the Petes in the fifth round, 85th overall, in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection from the Eastern Ontario Wild U16s. In two seasons with the Petes, Levac has played in 117 games, scoring 17 goals and 32 assists for 54 points. This past season, Levac put up 44 points in 60 games. He also finished second on the team in scoring during the playoffs, recording four points in six games.
