Careless Driving Charge Laid To Woman Allegedly In Connection to Three-Year-Old's Death From March 23 On Woodglade Boulevard

The Peterborough Police Services Traffic Unit has charged a 43-year-old woman with careless driving in connection with a fatal collision on March 23 with the death of a three-year-old girl, announced on Wednesday morning.

After a five-month investigation, the woman has been charged with:

• Careless driving causing bodily harm or death (Highway Traffic Act - Careless driving causing bodily harm or death (130)(3) Every person is guilty of the offence of driving carelessly who drives a vehicle or street car on a highway without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for other persons using the highway and who thereby causes bodily harm or death to any person. 2017, c. 26, Sched. 4, s. 17.)

They are scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 25.

Peterborough Police Seeking Suspect From Monday Morning Shooting

Peterborough Police Service is searching for a suspect from a shooting early Monday morning.

At roughly 12:22 a.m., officers were called to the area of Rubidge Street and Stewart Street. Officers located the male victim with a leg injury upon arrival. He was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre before being transferred to a Toronto-area hospital for further treatment. 

An argument had broken out between the men at the time of the incident. Officers searched the area but did not locate the suspect.

The suspect was described to police as:

• Black male

• 5'10" – 6’

• Stocky build (180- 200 lbs.)

• Short corn rows

• Thin moustache, well-groomed short beard

• Wearing dark jeans and a black t-shirt

46-Year-Old Peterborough Man Wanted On a Warrant Arrested

A 46-year-old Peterborough man wanted on a warrant was arrested Tuesday afternoon as reported by the Peterborough Police Service.

At roughly 12:38 p.m., an officer was on an unrelated call for service and observed a man walking in the George Street and Rink Street area. The officer recognized him and was aware of his outstanding warrant.

The 46-year-old Peterborough man was arrested on the strength of the warrant and released on an appearance notice. The accused is scheduled for court on Sept. 19, 2023.

Peterborough Man Facing Impaired Driving Charges From Monday Evening

A 20-year-old Peterborough man is facing impaired charges after an incident Monday evening.

At roughly 7:45 p.m., an officer was conducting speed enforcement in the Water Street and Marina Boulevard area. The officer saw a vehicle speeding and conducted a vehicle stop.

A 20-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Operation while impaired – alcohol

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus

• Stunt Driving (Highway Traffic Act)

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 19.

Peterborough Police Seeking Man Who Allegedly Used Bear Spray to Intervene Domestic Argument

Peterborough Police are seeking a man who used bear spray on another man while the latter was involved in a domestic argument with a woman on Friday night.

At roughly 9:27 p.m., officers received reports of an assault in the George Street and Dalhousie Street area. A man and woman were involved in a domenstic arguemtn when a third male intervened and allegedly used bear spray. The male involved in the argument suffered contamination to his face and refused medical attention according to a police press release.

The suspect was described to police as:

• white male

• blonde buzzed hair

• wearing a red t-shirt

Officers, including the K9 unit, searched the area but could not locate the suspect.

Peterborough Police Investigating a Man Robbed By Two People; Wallet and Phone Stolen

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating a robbery and seeking the suspect that occurred early Friday morning.

At roughly 1 a.m., general patrol officers were flagged down in the King Street and Stewart Street area about an alledged street-level robbery.  The victim had been walking on Hunter Street near Aylmer Street when he was approached by a woman asking for a cigarette. A man approached on a bike and allegedly brandished a knife at the victim.  The pair made off with the victim’s wallet and cell phone. 

The suspects were described to police as:

Suspect one:

• Female

• Long Blonde or Brown hair

• Slim build

Suspect two:

• Male, white

• Mid 30’s

• Goatee

• Wearing a blue hat and a blue sweater

Third Arrest Has Been Made From Homicide Incident Of Shawn Singh On July 2 Last Year

Peterborough Police have informed the public that 35-year-old Eduardo ‘Tito’ Silva of Barrie has been arrested in connection with the death of Shawn Singh on July 2 of last year, announced at the Peterborough Police Service station on Thursday afternoon.

Silva was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant that was obtained by the Peterborough Police Service. He was arrested following a joint operation between the Peterborough Police Service and Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

At roughly 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Silva was located and taken into custody after a two-hour stand-off with police at a Sault Ste. Marie residence.

Following his arrest, police obtained search warrants and conducted them at Silva’s Sault Ste. Marie residence.

“The distance between where Silva is accused of committing his crime and where he was ultimately arrested highlights the fact that crimes and those who commit them transcend regional borders and agencies,” said Chief Stuart Betts of the Peterborough Police Service. “We have become increasingly reliant on cooperation of other agencies, to bring a conclusion to such complex investigations that threaten the safety in our communities.”

In relation to the homicide in Peterborough and as a result of the investigation, Silva is charged with:

• Second-degree murder

• Discharge a restricted firearm or a prohibited firearm with intent

• Unauthorized possession of a firearm

• Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo

• Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order X2

• Firearm while committing an offence

“This arrest was a testament to the quality police work and professionalism of our members and has made our service proud,” said Chief Hugh Stevenson, Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. “We’d also like to thank Peterborough Police Service for their hard work and persistence in this case. Together, we were able to get a violent offender off the streets and into custody,”  

Silva was held for a bail hearing on Wednesday.

Singh was shot in the Park Street North and Sherbrooke Street area just after 2 p.m. on July 2.

The 37-year-old succumbed to his injuries despite life-saving measures by civilians, officers, EMS and medical professionals.

Silva was one of three people who were arrested from the incident. 28-year-old Jack Monine of Peterborough and 36-year-old Rebecca Silva were also arrested.

On Sept. 9, Monine was charged with:

• Second-degree murder

• Accessory after the fact to murder

• Fail to comply with probation

On Sept. 9, Rebecca was charged with:

• Manslaughter with a firearm

• Accessory after the fact to murder

Police Seeking Suspect Involved Alleged Break and Enter and Theft

Peterborough Police Service is investigating after a break and enter incident to a residence in the Brown Street and Monaghan Road area on Friday night.

At roughly 10:15 p.m., officers were called to a break and enter in progress. Upon arrival, No one was at the house and officers heard a noise from the back of the home.  Police suspect the culprit may have fled with an item from a tent in the backyard.

The suspect was described to police as:

• white male

• wearing all black clothing

• black gloves

• approximately 40 years old

Officers, including K9 searched the area, however, the suspect was not located. No injuries were reported.

Stabbing Incident Results In Man Taken Into Custody; Victim Suffered Non-Life-Threatening Injuries

One man is in custody after an alleged stabbing incident at a residence on Thursday morning.

At roughly 8:07 a.m., officers were called to the Sherbrooke Street and Park Place area. They learned upon arrival that one man suffered a non-life-threatening stab wound. He was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre, was treated and released. 

A member of the K9 unit was called in and successfully tracked a man in the area of Park Street and Parnell Street and took him into custody.

The investigation is ongoing and the police have no further details at this time according to a press release.

Peterborough Police Make Arrest For First-Degree Murder From Late-Night Homicide Last Tuesday

Peterborough Police have arrested 32-year-old William Weir and charged him with first-degree murder after the homicide of Jacob Jansen late on last Tuesday night.

At roughly 10:45 a.m. on Monday, Investigative Services Division arrested the Peterborough man.

Weir is being held in custody and will appear for a bail hearing on Tuesday.

“The Peterborough Police Service would like to recognize the hard work and many hours our detectives have put into identifying the individual, gathering and validating the evidence that culminated in the arrest,” says Chief Stuart Betts. “This arrest was greatly helped by the presence of the CCTV cameras in our downtown core.”

On Tuesday, officers received a call for service from the George Street and Charlotte Street area around 11:30 p.m.

They arrived to find a male suffering from a stab wound.  The male was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre where he succumbed to his injury. 

The family of the victim has been made aware of the arrest.
