Toronto Man Wanted On a Warrant From Peterborough Police Arrested at Pearson International Airport

A 30-year-old Toronto man wanted on a warrant has been arrested, announced by the Peterborough Police Services on Thursday morning.

On Wednesday, Peterborough Police were notified that Canadian Border Services Agency officers arrested the wanted male at Pearson International Airport.

Peterborough Police returned the accused to Peterborough on charges of:

  • Fail to Comply with Probation x 2

  • Fraud Over $5000

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing on Wednesday.

Oshawa Man Charged With Alleged Spousal Assault

A 19-year-old Oshawa man has been charged with assault after allegedly striking his partner on Saturday.

At roughly 2:57 a.m., officers responded to a disturbance call in the area of McDonnel Street and Donegal Street.

They saw the suspect and the victim walking westbound on McDonnel Street near Cross Street. The woman had visible injuries to her head and face according to the police report. The male was arrested and searched. Police discovered the suspect was in possession of composite knuckles and a nearby broken window was also located.

The man arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

  • Assault – Spousal

  • Mischief Under $ 5,000

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to attend court on Jan, 16.

Man Facing Impaired Driving Charges on New Year's Eve During RIDE Check

A 35-year-old Peterborough man is facing an impaired charge during a RIDE check late Sunday night.

At 11:53 p.m., officers conducting a RIDE check were approached by a citizen and advised that a vehicle had just struck another vehicle in a parking lot and fled the scene. Officers located the vehicle and conducted a vehicle stop.

The man was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

  • Drive while under suspension – Highway traffic Act

The accused was issued a 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 30.

The Peterborough Police conducted RIDE checks between Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, in the City of Peterborough, Village of Lakefield and Cavan-Monaghan Township. Of all 835 vehicles checked, 38 tests were administered and in addition to the above impaired arrest; two warnings with a three-day license suspension were issued.

Police Arrest and Charge a Man Flailing Arms On the Road With A Knife

A 52-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges of possessing a knife during an incident Tuesday evening.

At approximately 9:13 p.m., officers were called to the area of Wolfe Street and Aylmer Street about a man with a knife. Officers spotted the man described in the middle of the road flailing his arms. Officers called out to a man who started moving toward them. One officer drew their firearm and another officer drew their conducted energy weapon as the male did not comply with the officer's demands.  During the exchange, the man dropped the knife he had been holding and police were able to take him into custody. The knife was seized.

The man was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose  

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court on Wednesday.

Police Seeking Information of a Pedestrian Hit-and-Run; Good Samaritan Thanked For Aiding the Victim

The Peterborough Police Service is seeking information from anyone regarding a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle and the latter fleeing the scene on Monday night.

Police believe the 28-year-old woman was struck by a dark SUV or truck at about 8:30 p.m. while walking in the intersection of St. Mary’s Street and Goodfellow Road. Police learned a Good Samaritan had stopped and helped the woman return home. She was then taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre to treat minor injuries.  

Peterborough Police would like to speak to the Good Samaritan, any other witnesses and the driver of the vehicle.

Police Warn Public of TikTok Challenge Causing Mischief Surfacing In Peterborough

The Peterborough Police Service wants to raise public awareness of a TikTok social media challenge as continued calls of residential doors and garage doors being kicked or knocked with perpetrators running away shortly after.

Known as the ‘door-knock challenge,’ people knock or bang on garage doors and/or kick the front doors of homes and run away while filming the process. This typically occurs later at night or in the early morning hours.

Peterborough Police Service continues to receive calls about these types of incidents including two in December in town.

The Service is concerned about this type of activity because it is aggressive and unnerving for unsuspecting homeowners, leading to more extreme situations in other municipalities, according to a press release.

Kenner Student Charged With Making Threats With a Knife During School Dance

A 14-year-old Kenner student faces several charges after an incident at a school dance on Thursday evening.

At roughly 7:30 p.m., staff chaperones at a Kenner Collegiate Vocational Institute winter dance discivered that a student had threatened several other students with a knife on a nearby trail.

The faculty located the students and took the suspect to an office; however, the boy refused to put the knife down. An officer arrived and asked the male to put the knife down. He did not comply until the officer pointed but did not discharge their Conducted Energy Weapon at the suspect. Officers were able to take him into custody without incident.

As a result of the investigation, a 14-year-old Peterborough male was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

  • Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 8.

Douro-Dummer Man Faces Drug Possession Charges After Vehicle Stop

A 20-year-old Township of Douro-Dummer man is facing drug possession charges after a traffic stop early Thursday morning.

At approximately 3 a.m., general patrol officers noticed suspicious activity involving two vehicles in the McDonnel Street and Reid Street area and conducted a vehicle stop. The officer noticed signs of drug use in the car and the driver was taken into custody.

Officers seized the following:

  • Cocaine- 108.9 grams

  • Fentanyl- 66.9 grams

  • Several types of pills

The Douro-Dummer man was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - Opioid

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - Cocaine

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - Other Drugs

  • Possession of a Schedule II substance - Other drugs

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court on Thursday.

Police Seeking Info of Robbery Suspect Who Fled With $300 From Peterborough Business

The Peterborough Police Service is seeking a robbery suspect following an incident at a Peterborough business Tuesday evening.

At approximately 8:50 p.m., officers were called to the High Street and Lansdowne Street area. An unknown male had entered a business, approached an employee and demanded money, indicating he had a weapon in his pocket. The employee complied and the male fled the store with about $300. K9 Gryphon was called and conducted a track in the area but a suspect was not located.

The suspect was described to police as:

  • White male, approximately 5’10, medium build, stocky, with blue eyes, approximately 30-40 years of age

  • Wearing a hoodie, face fully covered with a dark face covering, dark coloured hat, black pants, dark shoes

Peterborough Police Seek Suspect Who Fled After Attempted Robbery of Downtown Business

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating after a robbery at a Downtown business on Wednesday evening.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., officers were called to a George Street and Hunter Street area business. The woman had entered the store and attempted to leave without paying for items. An altercation ensued and the business owner was punched several times. They owner retrieved the merchandise before the suspect fled the area.

The suspect was described to police as:

  • Black female

  • Approximately 5'4

  • With hair in dreads

  • White pants

  • Black jacket

  • Black boots

  • Black handbag
