Peterborough Man Arrested For Allegedly Assaulting A Female Family Member

A 36-year-old Peterborough man is facing an assault charge after an incident Tuesday night.

Officers received a report of an assault that occurred between two family members. The female victim reported a physical altercation that led her to fall to the floor. Subsequently, the male grabbed her phone and deliberately damaged it, rendering it unusable.

A 36-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault

  • Mischief Under $ 5,000

  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused is held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

50-Year-Old Man Deceased After Reported Missing On Dec. 23; Man Arrested and Charged With Indignity to Dead Body

A 41-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested and charged with indignity to dead body of a 50-year-old man who was reported missing on Dec. 23, reported by the Peterborough Police Service on Thursday afternoon.

Peterborough Police Service confirmed the death as declared by the Coroner’s Office.

The 41-year-old Peterborough man has been charged with:

  • Indignity to Dead Body

The family of the deceased is asking for privacy during this time.

Police Searching For Driver After Fleeing From Failure to Stop Incident

The Peterborough Police Service is looking for a vehicle that failed to stop for a traffic stop at the intersection of Aylmer Street and Sherbrooke Street on Wednesday evening.

At roughly 8:40 p.m., an officer spotted a vehicle with the wrong license plate.  When the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle fled without pursuit. The in-car camera system in the police cruiser captured the vehicle which is described as:

  • Black BMW

  • Sedan

  • Dark tinted windows

Six People Arrested After Investigation With Over $500,000 In Drugs Seized

Six people are facing charges after a drug investigation by the Peterborough Police Service Drug Unit with roughly $500,000 in street drug value seized, announced on Wednesday.

Project Docker spanned several months and included the execution of eight search warrants in the City of Peterborough, the County of Peterborough and the GTA according to a press release. 

Through the search warrants, officers seized:

  • 4.5 kilograms of Cocaine (9.9lbs)

  • 42 grams of Fentanyl

  • 1 vehicle

  • Over $5000 in Canadian currency

As a result of the investigation, arrested and charged were:

26-year-old Fardos Mohammadzada of Peterborough:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine

  • Proceeds of crime over $5000

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court Dec. 22.

28-year-old Travis Stevenson of Peterborough:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Fentanyl

  • Proceeds of crime under $5000

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court Dec. 22.

41-year-old Joseph Moffatt of Peterborough:

  •  Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Thursday.

24-year-old Nazz Leon of Peterborough:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine

  • Proceeds of crime under $5000

  • Fail to comply with undertaking

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Thursday.

31-year-old Daycota Csiszar of Peterborough:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine

  • Proceeds of crime under $5000

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Thursday.

26-year-old Kate Adamson-Pringle of Peterborough:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine

The accused was released on undertaking and will appear in court at a later date.

“This is a significant amount of illicit drugs that were seized and are no longer available on our streets,” said Chief Stuart Betts. “I commend the work of our Drug Unit for their ongoing commitment to keeping our communities safe and our policing partners who provided assistance.” 

The names of the accused are being released as a matter of public safety.

Peterborough Man Arrested and Charged With Possessing A Stolen License Plate

A 25-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges of possessing stolen property after an incident early Tuesday morning.

At approximately 1 a.m., an officer noticed a suspicious vehicle in the Wolf Street and Park Street area. An Automatic License Plate Reader in the police cruiser showed the license plate had been reported stolen. The officer conducted a traffic stop in the McDonnel and Stewart Streets area. 

The man was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of stolen property under $5000 (license plate)

  • Fail to Apply for Permit on Becoming Owner (Highway Traffic Act)

  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle (Highway Traffic Act)

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 6.

Peterborough Man Charged With Careless Driving From Saturday's Highway 7 and North Monaghan Parkway Collision

A 31-year-old Peterborough man has been charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act after a collision Saturday evening.

At approximately 7:50 p.m., officers received calls to Highway 7 and North Monaghan Parkway for a two-vehicle collision. 

Everyone involved was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment. One person was later transported to a Toronto hospital.

The area was closed for about an hour before being reopened.

Two Teens Arrested On Alleged Robbery and Possession of Replica Guns and Bear Spray

Two Peterborough teens are facing multiple charges after an incident early Friday morning.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., officers arrived at a business in the George Street North and Townsend Street area. Several young people had stolen items from the business and fled. Officers searched the area and located two people matching the description given to police, a short distance from the business. Both were taken into custody and searched after arrest. Officers seized two replica handguns and a can of bear spray.  

As a result of the investigation,

A 15-year-old Peterborough male is charged with:

  • Carrying concealed weapon x2

  • Failure to comply with release order

  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order

The accused is currently bound by a weapons prohibition order with the following conditions: not possessing any firearm or weapon as defined under the Criminal Code. 

The accused is currently bound by a curfew under a release order.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 22.

A 16-year-old Peterborough male is charged with:

  • Carrying concealed weapon

  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order

The accused is currently bound by a weapons prohibition order with the following condition: not possessing any firearm or weapon as defined under the Criminal Code. 

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 22.

Peterborough Man On Seven Outstanding Warrants For 24 Charges Arrested

A 32-year-old Peterborough man on seven warrants was arrested and also faces new charges after an incident early Wednesday morning.

At approximately 2:45 a.m., officers were called to Crystal Drive and Middlefield Road about a disturbance. A male had left the residence and police searched the area and located a male similar to the description provided. 

When questioned, the man gave a false name as further investigation determined his real identity and while the man was not involved in the initial call, he was wanted on seven outstanding warrants for 24 charges, including theft under $5000, mischief, assault, failing to comply with probation and uttering threats.

Police attempted to take the man into custody but he resisted arrest. One officer drew his Conducted Energy Weapon but did not deploy it and the arrest was made. During the incident, one of the officers was cut by drug paraphernalia on the suspect and treated at Peterborough Regional Health Centre.

The man was arrested on the strength of the warrants and further charged with:

  • Obstruct Peace Officer x2

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court on Wednesday.

Peterborough Police Seeking Information of a Friday Morning Convenience Store Robbery

The Peterborough Police Service is looking to the public for assistance in connection with a robbery and assault at a convenience store early Friday morning.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., officers were called to the King Street and Bethune Street area convenience store. Officers learned that the male clerk was helping a customer when a second man came into the store demanding money and brandishing a baseball bat. A struggle ensued and the clerk was struck with the bat before grabbing the bat away from the suspect according to the police report. The suspect then fled the store with the clerk following the suspect and struck him several times with the baseball bat on the sidewalk. The suspect suffered head injuries and is in a Toronto hospital receiving treatment. The 22-year-old clerk was treated at the scene by EMS.

As a result of the investigation, a warrant for arrest was issued for the 37-year-old male suspect for robbery, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon.

The 22-year-old clerk from Peterborough was also arrested and charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Saturday.

Peterborough Police would also like to speak with the male customer who was in the store at the time.

Peterborough Man Arrested After Alleged Murder Attempt By Choking and Knife Threat

A 69-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges including an attempt to murder from an incident on Saturday evening.

At approximately 11:05 p.m., officers were called to a Sophia Street and Burnham Street area residence. A 70-year-old female victim was being treated by EMS after officers learned that she had been allegedly attacked by her partner several times. This includes being choked, verbally threatened and threatened with a knife. The man fled the residence but was located at his residence in the Reid Street and Parkhill Road area shortly after and taken into custody. 

The man was arrested and charged with:

  • Attempt to Commit Murder

  • Uttering threats to cause death

  • Assault with a Weapon - Spousal

  • Overcome Resistance by Attempting to Choke, Suffocate or Strangle another Person

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Sunday.

To protect the victim’s identity, police are not releasing the accused's name.
