Group of Young People Sought By Peterborough Police After Showing a Knife and Taking a Cell Phone

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating after a robbery involving a large group of youth on two victims in an incident Friday night in Peterborough.

At roughly 9:15 p.m., officers were called to the River Road South and Lansdowne Street East area. They learned that two people were approached by 15 to 20 young people. The latter asked to have a vape but when refused, a verbal argument ensued and one youth showed the victims a knife in a bag. The group fled towards Beavermead Park and one of the victims noticed their cell phone was gone.

Peterborough Man Wanted On Warrant For Credit Card Theft and Fraud Arrested

A 54-year-old Peterborough Man who was wanted on a warrant for credit card fraud has been arrested.

An officer on patrol saw the suspect wanted on an outstanding warrant. Police advised the male to stop but the man took running. A foot pursuit followed and the suspect and was shortly apprehended and taken into custody.

The man faces the following charges:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime x2

  • Fraudulent Use of Credit Card x6

  • Theft Under $5000 x2

  • Breach of Probation x2

  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court Friday.

Peterborough Man Charged After Refusing to Leave Residence and Shoves Officer Into Mailboxes

A 49-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident early Thursday morning.

At roughly 12:15 a.m., there were reports of an unwanted male who did not live there refusing to leave. Officers located the man in the building and while trying to escort him out, the man he resisted and shoved one of the officers into a bank of mailboxes. The man continued to resist and an officer deployed their Conducted Energy Weapon to take the man into custody.

The man was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault a Peace Officer

  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the following condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. 

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court Friday.

Peterborough Man Faces Multiple Charges And Has Drugs, Firearms and Cash Confiscated; Two Others Taken Into Custody

A 33-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges after an investigation by the Peterborough Police Drug Unit resulting in the seizure of drugs and firearms.

On Tuesday, an investigation was conducted in the Rubidge Street and Simcoe Street area. Officers conducted a traffic stop several blocks away and took three people into custody.

During a search after arrest, officers seized:

  • A 12-gauge shotgun

  • Ammunition

  • 5 grams – Fentanyl

  • 1 gram – Crystal Methamphetamine

  • $700+ in Canadian Currency

The man arrested and charged with:

  • Unauthorized Possession of Weapon

  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

  • Carrying concealed weapon

  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited or restricted weapon

  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Other Drugs

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine

  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 - in Canada

  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order X3

  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order X3

The accused is currently bound by three probation orders, each with the following condition: to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The accused is currently bound by three weapons prohibition orders with the condition not to possess any firearm, cross-bow, prohibited weapon, restricted weapon or prohibited device.

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court on Wednesday.

The two other people in the vehicle were arrested on the strength of warrants from other jurisdictions.

Havelock Woman Charged With Impaired Driving Early Tuesday Morning

A 27-year-old Havelock woman is facing charges after an incident early Tuesday morning.

At roughly 3 a.m., officers were called regarding a disturbance in the Dickson Street and Murray Street area. Officers located a vehicle and noticed signs of impairment from he driver after speaking with her.

The woman was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court June 18.

Peterborough Police Searching For Man Allegedly Attempting to Run Off With a Toddler at a Park

The Peterborough Police Service is searching for a man who attempted walk away with a toddler at a park on Sunday afternoon.

At roughly noon, a mother and her toddler were in a park at Lock Street and McKellar Street when an older man engaged in conversation and then began to follow the pair around. After a few minutes, he scooped up the girl and started walking to the parking lot. When the mother started yelling, another man and a woman confronted him in the park. He put the girl down and left the area.

The suspect was described to police as:

  • Caucasian

  • 65 to 70 years old

  • Thin build

  • Grey and white short hair

  • Blue and grey plaid button-up short-sleeved shirt

  • Khaki cargo pants which were over-sized

  • Last seen walking toward Lansdowne Street

Niagara Man Wanted On Assault and Weapon Possession Charges From Two Incidents Arrested

A four-month investigation has resulted in a 25-year-old Niagara Region man facing charges in connection with two serious incidents involving assault and possession of a dangerous weapon in Peterborough.

On Thursday, officers from the Peterborough Police Investigative Services Division along with Investigative Services Officers and the Tactical Team from Niagara Regional Police executed a warrant at a residence in Thorold. 

The man was arrested and charged with:

Incident on Nov. 24, 2023:

  • Aggravated Assault

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

  • Unauthorized Possession in Motor Vehicle

  • Carry Concealed Weapon

  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

Incident on Jan. 9, 2024:

  • Aggravated Assault

  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

On Jan. 9, officers were called to a Peterborough residence about a 37-year-old man with a head injury. The male was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre before being transferred to a trauma hospital in Kingston for treatment. Through investigation, it was determined that the male had been assaulted and officers were able to identify a suspect. 

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court on both incidents on Friday.

Two Peterborough People Arrested on Drug Trafficking Charges; Man Charged With Impaired Driving

Two Peterborough people are facing several charges including drug trafficking and impaired driving from an early Thursday incident.

At roughly 3:45 a.m., officers were called to a parking lot on Water Street and Parkhill Road West about a suspicious vehicle. 

Officers saw a vehicle running and a man asleep in the driver’s seat. Once he woke, the male attempted to drive away but was stopped by the officers after noticing signs of impairment.  A female passenger in the vehicle was also taken into custody. 

During a search of the vehicle after arrest, officers seized:

  • Cocaine - 48.9 grams

  • Crystal Methamphetamine – 20.7 grams

  • Fentanyl – 56.6 grams

  • Marijuana – 3.7 grams

  • Percocet - 155 pills

  • Oxycodone - 21 tablets

  • Xanax – 1 tablet or bar

  • Pre-Gabalin - 13 capsules

  • Packaging materials (sandwich bags / tin foil)

  • 10 Cellphones

  • Large quantities of currency from multiple countries

As a result of the investigation:

A 35-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – drugs

  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court x2

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid (other than heroin) x2

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Other Drugs x2

  • Possession of a Schedule III substance for the purpose of Trafficking

The accused is currently bound by a recognizance order with the following conditions not to have, consume or possess any drugs that are not prescribed and to not be inside a motor vehicle without the registered owner.

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court Thursday.

A 36-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid (other than heroin) x2

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Other Drugs x2

  • Possession of a Schedule III substance for the purpose of Trafficking

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court Thursday.

Two People Arrested on Alleged Theft and Mischief Early Tuesday Morning

Two Peterborough people are facing theft and mischief charges after going through vehicles early Tuesday morning.

At roughly 2:30 a.m., officers were called to the Robinson Street and Rogers Street area about two people going through vehicles. Officers located two people who matched the description given to the police.

They were taken into custody without incident. Officers further searched the area and located several damaged vehicles and items believed to have been used to attempt to enter them.  

As a result of the investigation, a 34-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Theft Under $5000

  • Mischief Under $ 5,000

  • Trespassing at Night

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court June 18.

A 31-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:

  • Theft Under $5000

  • Mischief Under $ 5,000

  • Trespassing at Night

Peterborough Police Service Issue 27 Traffic Tickets During Victoria Day Weekend

Peterborough Police Service Traffic Unit officers completed a traffic enforcement initiative during Canada Road Safety week issuing 27 throughout the City of Peterborough and Lakefield on Friday during the Victoria Day weekend.

There were five warnings and three vehicles were taken off the road in addition to the 27 tickets issued:

  • Unplated Vehicle x1

  • Cell Phones x2

  • Unnecessary Noise x2

  • Suspended Driver x1 

  • G1 Driver violation x1

  • Red Lights Visible at Front x1

  • Emissions Violations x2

  • Speeding x5

  • Drivers Licence Offences x4

  • Insurance Violations x3

  • Permit Violations x3
