Peterborough Teenager Facing Impaired Driving Charges While Hitting a Parked Vehicle

A 17-year-old Peterborough male is facing several vehicular charges after an incident early Sunday morning.

At roughly 3:20 a.m., officers were called to the area of Penrose Avenue and Sherbrooke Street after a report of a hit-and-run to a parked vehicle. Officers located two vehicles with extensive damage and a license plate that did not belong to either vehicle. Officers attended the residence attached to the plate and located a vehicle with front-end damage. They learned that the vehicle had been taken without permission and that the driver was not licensed. While officers were speaking to the driver, they also noticed signs of impairment.

The teen was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

  • Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent

  • Failure to comply with undertaking

  • Drive motor vehicle - no licence (Highway Traffic Act)

  • Fail to remain (Highway Traffic Act)

The accused is currently bound by an undertaking with the following conditions: to remain in their residence between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 25.

Peterborough Man Arrested On Sexual Assault Charges Involving 15-Year-Old Teen Girl

A 41-year-old Peterborough man is facing sexual assault charges involving a 15-year-old female.

Officers were reported the incident in late July and opened an investigation. The Investigative Services Sex Crime Unit arrested the suspect at the Peterborough Police Station on Thursday.

The man was charged with:

  • Sexual Interference

  • Sexual Assault on a Person Under 16 years of age

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court on Friday.

Peterborough Man Arrested After Allegedly Hitting Teen Multiple Times With Baseball Bat In Road Rage Incident

A 46-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after a road rage incident Thursday night.

At roughly 8:30 p.m., officers were reported an incident that occurred before 8 p.m. at The Parkway and Hwy 115 exit.  An aggressively driven vehicle rear-ended another.

When the parties stopped to exchange information, the 17-year-old driver of the vehicle that was rear-ended was struck several times with a bat by the other driver. The suspect and the victim then left the area, following each other for a bit before the victim stopped to call the police. 

The 46-year-old was charged with:

  • Assault with A Weapon

  • Careless Driving (Highway Traffic Act)

  • Fail to Report an Accident (Highway Traffic Act)

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 1.

Peterborough Teen Arrested For Allegedly Striking a Man With a Hatchet During An Altercation

A 17-year-old Peterborough male is facing assault charges after allegedly striking a man with a hatchet on Wednesday night.

At roughly 11:50 p.m., officers were called to a residence in the Stewart Street and Townsend Street area about a disturbance. Officers located a man with an injury to his arm and administered first aid until he could be taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre by EMS. 

Through investigation, officers learned that a male and a female had been in a physical altercation and when a neighbour tried to intervene, he was struck on the arm with a hatchet. The couple then fled in a vehicle.

Officers were able to identify and then locate the couple at a residence in the Fairbairn Street and Raymond Street. The male was taken into custody without incident.  The weapon was also seized.

The teen was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault – Spousal

  • Aggravated Assault

  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court

The accused is bound by a release order with the following conditions: to remain in their residence between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court Thursday.

Peterborough Police Seeking Break & Enter Suspect Taking Over $40,000 In Jewellery

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating a break-and-enter at a residence where the suspect took jewellery from a safe.

Officers were notified about a break and enter and theft at a residence in the Wildlark Avenue and Glenforest Boulevard area on Tuesday.

Police believe the incident happened between Aug. 2 and Aug. 6. The homeowners reported that roughly $40,000 to $50,000 worth of jewellery was taken from a safe.

Peterborough Man Arrested After Running Out Into Traffic And Pulling His Pants Down

A 53-year-old Peterborough man is facing indecent act charges after an incident Monday morning.

At roughly 11 a.m., officers were called to a section of George Street near Westcott Street. A man had been running out into traffic and pulling his pants down. Officers located a man matching the description given and took him into custody without incident.

The man was arrested and charged with:

  • Indecent Act- public place

  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Monday.

Local Man Arrested On Break and Enter Charge From Downtown Peterborough Business In Late July

Peterborough Police have arrested a 40-year-old man wanted in connection with a break-in at a downtown business.

On Friday, an officer and a special constable were made aware of several people sleeping outside in the Water Street and Murray Street area. When they went to check on them, it was discovered that one of them was the male wanted in connection with the break-and-enter

The man was arrested on the strength of the warrant and charged with:

  • Break and enter a place to commit an indictable offence

  • Fail to comply with probation order

The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the following conditions: to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Friday.

North York Woman Charged With Arson In West End Business Fire From March

A 29-year-old North York woman is facing an arson charge after a fire in a west-end Peterborough business on March 2.

Peterborough Police determined the fire was set deliberately at roughly 5 a.m. in the Lansdowne Street and Brealey Drive area.

Upon arrival, they learned that the front window had been smashed and a fire set. No one was injured were reported.  A suspect was seen leaving the area in a dark sedan.

After a four-month investigation by Peterborough Police, officers with the Investigative Services Division executed a search warrant at a North York residence on Thursday and made an arrest.

The woman was arrested and charged with:

  • Arson, Disregard for Human Life

The accused is being held in custody and appeared in court on Thursday.

Oshawa Teen Taken Into Custody After Allegedly Stealing a Vehicle and Crashing It

A 13-year-old Oshawa male is facing a number of charges after an incident Tuesday morning.

At roughly 6:45 a.m., officers were called about a vehicle stolen from a residence in the Arndon Avenue and Monaghan Road area and a bicycle left in its place. 

An officer on general patrol spotted the vehicle at a traffic light on Lansdowne Street. When the officer activated the emergency lights, the vehicle took off through the red light at a high rate of speed. The officer followed but the pursuit was called off for safety reasons and officers lost sight of the vehicle.

Police received a call shortly after regarding a collision at the corner of Highway 7 and Lansdowne Street. Officers attended and noticed a vehicle matching the description of the stolen vehicle upside down in the ditch. They were directed to the driver who was sitting nearby. As the driver was assessed by EMS at the scene, officers learned that there were two warrants out for his arrest.

As a result of the investigation, a 13-year-old Oshawa male was arrested on the strength of the warrants and further charged with:

  • Dangerous operation

  • Flight from peace officer

  • Theft of Motor Vehicle

  • Fail to Comply with Sentence

Highway Traffic Act Charges

  • Drive motor vehicle - no licence

  • Drive Motor Vehicle - Perform stunt - Excessive speed

  • Red light - fail to stop X2

  • Drive wrong way - divided highway

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Tuesday.

Police Seeking Suspect Involved In Downtown Peterborough Break and Enter

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating after a break and enter to a business early Monday morning.

When officers arrived on the business scene on Hunter Street West near Aylmer, they learned that someone had entered the business and ransacked the place. The left with about $34,000 in merchandise, computers, studio lighting, audio equipment, gym equipment and items used by the business. 

Through investigation, a suspect was identified and is described as:

  • White male

  • Thin build

  • Wearing black hoodie with “American” up the back and “Eagle” on the hood, black pants, black sneakers with white soles
