Hedley Coming To Peterborough April 15th

Hedley, one of the most successful touring acts in Canada, has announced a coast-to-coast 2016 Canadian arena tour in support of their sixth studio album, Hello. That includes a stop in Peterborough April 15th at the PMC. Joining Hedley will be special guests Carly Rae Jepsen and Francesco Yates.

"The PMC is excited to welcome back Hedley for their 2016 Hello World Tour," John Salfi, Program and Promotions Coordinator for PMC, tells PTBOCanada. "Hedley last played the PMC in 2014 and every time they play this building they bring an infectious energy and buzz that lifts the roof off."

Supporting Hedley on the Hello World Tour is pop sensation Carly Rae Jepsen—whose infectious “Call Me Maybe” was one of the biggest hits on the planet in 2012—and Francesco Yates, whose debut single “Better to Be Loved” has already rocketed him into stardom.

Tickets will go on sale Friday, November 6th!

Downtown Peterborough Introduces Mascot George King Of The Downtown

There is a new face for downtown Peterborough: a mascot named George, King of Downtown. The Peterborough Downtown Business Improvement Area made the announcement at its annual general meeting Wednesday night at The Venue.

“We’ve pursued the idea of creating a downtown mascot for several years and I’m very pleased with the results," says DBIA Executive Director Terry Guiel. "You’ll be seeing George at parades, ribbon cuttings and downtown events. We’re seeing more and more families coming downtown and this will be a good way to engage them and get the kids excited."

The choice of a lion was inspired by the City of Peterborough’s Coat-of-Arms. The name George is inspired by George Street, a historic and thriving commercial district in the city—and one of the busiest streets in Peterborough.

Don't Put Your Blue Boxes Curbside Until Collection Day Or They Might Blow Away

Strong and gusty winds are forecasted to continue throughout the week. The City of Peteborough has issued a release asking residents to please hold onto your blue boxes until the morning of their collection, 7 a.m. set-out time—rather than setting them out the night before. This will help to reduce recyclables and blue boxes being blown around the streets.

Also, residents are encouraged to write their address on their blue boxes, so they can be identified and returned if they should blow away. There is a $5 fee to replace lost blue boxes, which are available at City Hall, 500 George Street North and the Material Recycling Facility, 390 Pido Road (cash only).

A Rainfall Warning Is In Effect (And It's Going To Be Windy)

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for the area, as a lot of the wet stuff is coming our way over the next couple days—the bulk of it on Wednesday.

This from Environment Canada...

The City of Peterborough has issued a release asking residents to clear their sewer catch basins of leaves and debris if it is safe to do so. “With rainfall amounts of 50 millimetres expected, it is important that catch basins are clear to minimize the risk of localized flooding,” says Wayne Jackson, Director of Utility Services. “Due to fallen leaves, autumn is a difficult time of year to experience this much rain.”

And winds will be howling as well...

Strong and gusty southerly winds are forecast to develop early Wednesday over Southwestern Ontario, then on Wednesday afternoon over remaining parts of Southern Ontario. Wind gusts to 70 km/h are likely in most areas. Winds will become southwesterly on Thursday as a cold front arrives and strong gusts to 90 km/h are again possible. These winds may be strong enough to cause some tree damage and local power outages.

The rain and strong winds will be gone by Friday. Thank goodness.

A Bunch Of Young Girls Put Scarves Around Peterborough For People In Need

On Saturday (October 24th), STRUTT and the Just Beyou.tiful Campaign—both of which empower young girls to do good and inspire inner beauty—teamed up for an amazing cause.

Six young girls ranging from Grade 4 to 7 tied up 16 scarves around the downtown core of Peterborough, with the following message on them: "I am not lost! If you are out in the cold, take this scarf to keep you warm."

"This was for a session teaching volunteerism," Niki Aliday from Just Beyou.tiful tells PTBOCanada. "One of the girls said to me, 'Even if one person uses a scarf, we did our job of keeping someone warm.' That makes my heart smile."

Here is Niki pictured below with the amazing young girls who made this happen...
