Peterborough's Flying Colours Corp. Installing Its First Gogo L3 AVANCE In Challenger Aircraft

Global air services company Flying Colours Corp., which is headquartered at Peterborough Airport, is installing Gogo AVANCE L3™ air-to-ground connectivity systems in two Bombardier Challenger aircraft, a CL604 and CL605.

The installation of the small form, fully integrated AVANCE L3 inflight connectivity and entertainment solution represents a first for Flying Colours, which has already installed several of the AVANCE L5 systems.

“As the privately-owned aircraft operate predominantly across North America, we advised our clients that the Gogo AVANCE L3 system will fulfil the flexibility, reliability and meaningful data-speeds needed by them,” says Kevin Kliethermes, director of sales for Flying Colours, which has facilities in Peterborough; St. Louis, Missouri; and Singapore.

“The solution is proving popular on mid-size aircraft with missions based mainly in North America," he adds. "We have more AVANCE installations confirmed, and expect the trend to continue as the ever-increasing demand for feature rich, high-speed data access at affordable prices continues.”

Once installed, the Gogo AVANCE L3 system will provide passengers with access to the Gogo Biz® Broadband network and will support, dependent on package, access to voice, email, web browsing, moving maps, and a selection of movies and TV programmes.

That Moment When Rescued Eggs Start To Hatch At Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre

Many of the injured female turtles that come in to Ontario Turtle Conversation Centre in Peterborough are gravid (with eggs) so the team there is always on the watch for them.

They also harvest deceased females' eggs, incubate them and when hatched, return the young turtles to their mother's home wetland. Pictured below on July 13th are OTCC's Margaret and Amanda who are busy planting eggs that were collected that morning.

Toward the end of July is always exciting for the team at OTCC, as that's when many eggs start to hatch. Indeed, according to their Facebook page post OTCC has admitted 685 turtles to date, collected over 3,200 eggs and their admitted turtles continue to lay eggs on a daily basis.

Here are some of those eggs hatching the other day...

The Awesome Open Street Community Event Peterborough Pulse Is This Saturday

Beautiful downtown Peterborough is about to become a vibrant, car-free corridor this Saturday (July 21st) with the return of Peterborough Pulse, which reimagines the possibility of community and the public realm for a single day

This is when for one summer day, the streets are filled with cyclists and roller-skaters, families pushing strollers, karate and fencing demonstrations, art and music, and more.

Now in its 4th year, Pulse will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year’s Pulse route will run along George Street from McDonnel St. to Sherbrooke St. and will include Charlotte Street from George St. to Aylmer St.

New this year is a snack hub—delicious idea!—on Charlotte Street next to the George Street intersection.

This year, the Pulse team will be expanding the Pulse effect all summer long with the Pulse Play Guide. The Pulse Play Guide is a uniquely local summer passport curated to reflect the magic of Pulse with recreation activities the whole family can discover together, from axe throwing to star gazing.

The Play Guide will offer families free access to some of the most spectacular recreation opportunities offered in the city of Peterborough. Printed Play Guides can be picked up at a number of the local art galleries and museums including: The Museum and Archives, Hutchinson House, The Canadian Canoe Museum, Art Gallery of Peterborough, and the OFAH Heritage Centre.

There Is A Spectacular Lavender Field Oasis Near Peterborough In Bloom Now

If you love lavender, take a drive to 8667 Gilmour Road in Port Hope near Peterborough and you will find your heaven.

It is there you will have a unique experience at a place called Laveanne—a tranquil oasis connecting nature, local food, culture and community.

There are rows and rows of this beautiful, scented purple haze which are in bloom for July.

Look at Laveanne from above, this labrinth is spectacular...

"It's absolutely stunning," says Peterborough's Eileen Kimmett who recently visited.

This bench and its scents and romantic views awaits you...

According to their website, "the bloom is short, and the best time is between the 2nd- 3rd week of July to see the most intense colour and experience the amazing buzz of thousands of Honeybees."

They start to harvest the fields the last week of July, as in August all the blooms are distilled in their lavender essential oil. The fields close for two weeks from August 1st to August 15th to allow them to harvest, process and prune their plants. Their gift shop will remain open during this time.

In July, you can even do yoga among the blooms...

For July, Laveanne is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more info, smell, er... click here.

Remember The Old Monkey House At The Zoo

Way back in the day, the Riverview Park & Zoo's Dobbin Building down at the water was known as the "Monkey House", housing monkeys and various other slithery creatures.

The zoo shared vintage old pictures on their Facebook page of that house that will be a great trip down memory lane for many. Have a look at some pics  ("feeding the carps" not included—remember those nearby?) below...
