Kim Doolittle at Showplace

  • Showplace 290 George St N Peterborough, ON, K9J 3H2 Canada (map)

Rhythmic Promotions and Showplace Performance Center are pleased to present Kim Doolittle with special guest Canadian Folk Icon, Ken Whiteley in the intimate setting of the Nexicom Lounge, October 2, 2014 from 8-10 pm.

This engaging and unique Singer/Songwriter/Storyteller will be showcasing her original music along with some cherry picked favorites with the backing of the Wolfgang Brothers, Blind Lemon Stixman and an appearance by Wray Ellis.  Well known for her humor, anecdotes and stories accompanying her Nova Scotian upbringing, she recounts her muse which has taken her worldwide land and sea with an acerbic wit and an open heart.

She has shared the stage with many famous and infamous people from Jeff Healey to Serena Ryder and Rita MacNeil, wearing many musical hats and finally making herself at home with a sound married in Roots Blues, Folk and a hint of Alternative Country.  When you ask her what kind of music she plays, she simply says “Kim Doolittle Music”.

“Forty years of singing and playing weaves a tapestry, a trickle down so to speak.  My mother played the crooners, my brothers played 45’s during the radical changes of the late 60’s and 70’s, my best friend’s mother introduced me to gospel music in a rise up church in rural Nova Scotia and in her living room on Sundays, and of course being a Maritimer, there were family parties where guitars, harp, singing and harmony permeated our house every weekend.  The storytelling evolved from a cruise ship contract.  I wanted to know what inspired these great, old songs I was singing and then find a common ground of nostalgia and sentiment with the audience through the language of music. “

The songwriting has just always been.  She feels her new co-written songs are deeper and more emotional than anything she has ever penned and hopes to touch a note with people on a deeper level through recording and live performance.

With an eye on producing her 9th CD in 2015 with Ken Whiteley’s sound acumen and guidance as producer, the last two years have been spent writing, refining and refocusing.  The musicians in her orbit as of late are people with whom she played with over 25 years ago and the collaboration on stage is natural and organic and not to be missed.

Tickets are $25 and available at Showplace Performance Center, www.showplace.org or by calling the box office at (705) 742-7469.   We hope to see you there and in the oft repeated words of Kim Doolittle,

“May all your blues be the musical kind.”  See you at the show!
