It’s that time of year again!! Regardless if you’re in a new relationship or have been married for 15 years, February is a month to remember. For the past year the Canoe Museum has showcased romance through our “Can I Canoe You Up the River?” exhibit displaying very intricate and rare courting canoes. Canoeing, not so surprisingly, allowed freedom for young couples, at the turn of the century, to paddle away from the watchful eyes of their chaperones.
This romantic season come join us to explore our collection of canoes and be an artisan for an evening. Included in “A Date Night” is admission to the Museum, a chance to try your hand at soapstone carving, a traditional Inuit skill (and why yes, you do get to take it home!), photograph keep sake and enjoy refreshments and goodies— compliments of Publican House Brewery and Black Honey.
Every piece of soapstone has its own character, which can also be said for each couple— no two pieces are alike. Carve away at your very own piece of soapstone, which if crafted carefully, will fit perfectly with your partners or use your creative side to make a one of a kind piece of art. What could be more romantic then brushing soapstone dust of your date’s nose…which you may or may not have put there yourself?!
