Surface Decoration: Jewelry

This workshop will introduce you to a variety of ways to create interest in your jewellery designs by creating textures, colours, and patterns on metal surfaces. Mechanical techniques will include forging, stamping, carving/filing, engraving with burrs and roller- printing. Adding colour with patinas will be explored, as well as depletion guilding and applying metal leaf. Metal finishes and polishing techniques will also be covered.
A knowledge of basic metal working skills such as sawing, filing and finishing are recommended, but not required.Tools and materials provided.
Supplies: Due to the small scale of objects, visual enhancement tools are recommended, such as a magnifying visor or magnifying glass (please bring your own). Manual dexterity and attention to detail are important skills needed in this course.
