The Secret Path is an animated film by The Tragically Hip lead singer, Gord Downie, that tells the story of Chanie Wenjack, a 12 year old boy who froze to death 50 years ago after fleeing the Cecilia
Jeffrey Indian Residential School near Kenora, Ont. This film will be screened at 9 pm, on the 50th anniversary of the day Wenjack’s body was discovered - on CBC TV and as part of this event. Preceding the screening, there will be a panel discussion featuring four individuals:
Shirley Williams, Elder, Residential School Survivor and Professor Emeritus, Trent University
Dr. John Milloy, Special Advisor to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Professor Emeritus, Trent University
Karissa Dawn Martin, Indigenous Studies & History student, Trent University
Liz Stone, Executive Director, Niijkiwendidaa Anishnaabe-Kwewag, Peterborough
A reception will take place in the foyer.
