Artspace will host Peterborough’s first Book Arts and Zine Fest on February 27th, 2016. The event will feature artist-made zines, comics and graphic novels, letterpress prints and cards, the work of small presses, woodcuts, screenprints, handmade books and other types of book and paper arts. All proceeds of sales will go to the artists.
The gallery will be open from 10am to 5pm. Entrance to the event is free to the public, with a cash bar.
Book arts encompass interdisciplinary approaches to text, craft and/or visual art. Techniques range from the fine crafts of printmaking and bookbinding to low tech photocopied zines and handmade artist books. These original works are affordable and collectable.
Over 25 artists from Peterborough, Burlington, Toronto, Kingston and other cities across Ontario will be participating. Also attending are the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild and George Hill & Co., suppliers of bookbinding supplies. Some of the notable indie artists, small presses and print collectives include:
Jackson Creek Press
Kingdom of Dog
Peterborough Poetry Slam Collective
Vincent Perez, Everlovin’ Press
Graphic History Collective
William Joel Davenport
Thee Hellbox Press
Workshops in various book arts techniques will be taking place in Gallery 2. The workshops will be $10 per person and will include materials. Stay tuned for more info on workshops as it becomes available!
