Juno-winning singer-songwriter Jenny Whiteley returns to Peterborough with a new album, an homage to her musical heritage fittingly called The Original Jenny Whiteley. Blues in the Bottle, a Peterborough jug band that includes Jenny's cousin Dave Tough, opens the night.
Jenny Whiteley has won two Juno Awards and has been nominated four times as a solo artist and as a member of Heartbreak Hill and The Junior Jug Band family band. She has a SOCAN number one award for her song "Baby, I" as performed by Amy Millan, a gold record for her family band's recording and has toured all over Canada, the U.S. And Europe.
The songs on The Original Jenny Whiteley range from folk, blues, bluegrass, jug band to old time and early jazz - the soundtrack to Whiteley’s childhood - mixed with a handful of new original songs. She’s accompanied by a rich array of roots instruments including jug, banjo, guitar, harmonica, fiddle, bones, jaw harp.
Blues in the Bottle is a jug band from Peterborough, Ontario. Equally at home entertaining cynical young people, dissolute middle-aged folks, wide-eyed children and grateful elders, Blues in the Bottle seeks to share the haunted euphoria and strange mythos of tobacco-chewing roosters, France-visiting corpses, and other gritty magic that is jug band music.
Event is at Gallery in the Attic at 140 1/2 Hunter Street West
