Stories & Songs of Stompin’ Tom

Stories & Songs of Stompin’ Tom

Friday October 26, 2018 – 7:30 PM
Presented by Duncan Fremlin

Whiskey Jack performed as Stompin’ Tom’s All Star back up band for many years.  Band leader and banjo player Duncan Fremlin first toured with Tom in 1990 and continued to perform with this great Canadian troubadour until his death in 2013.   Also on the Market Hall stage will be Juno Award nominee and multi-instrumentalist, Douglas John Cameron;  Stompin’ Tom’s fiddler (and five time Canadian National Bluegrass Fiddle Player) Randy Morrison;  Tom’s bass player Eric Jackson and Canadian drumming legend, Al Cross.

For over 40 years, Whiskey Jack has been performing their unique brand of Canadian country, folk and roots music throughout North America.   In the 1980’s, they were featured weekly on CBC TV’s Tommy Hunter Show.   During those years, each Friday night, Stompin’ Tom Connors would tune in and watch their segment, The Ol’ Back Porch.  It was then that Tom became an avid Whiskey Jack fan.  Along with 2 million of his fellow Canadians, Tom enjoyed the band’s humour, soaring vocals and amazing musicianship.

When Stompin’ Tom returned to the recording studio and the road after a 13 year hiatus, he called Whiskey Jack and invited them to join him in the studio to record his acclaimed album, “Dr. Stompin’ Tom… Eh?” followed by a cross Canada tour.
