2nd Annual Art for Autism Festival

June 1 - 3, 2018

Peterborough, ON – May 11, 2018 – When art and autism intersect, the impact is magnificent. The Annual Art for Autism Festival is a bold brushstroke of diversity, inclusion, and sense of community – an enriching experience for the whole family and lovers of fine art. Peterborough artist Ellen Cowie partners with Community Living Trent Highlands to present a three-day art festival at The Mount Community Centre to raise funds for those living with autism in our community. One in 68 children every year are identified with autism. The need for financial support to our community members living with autism is now.

Teresa Jordan, Executive Director of Community Living Trent Highlands invites you to the full weekend event. “Enjoy the Friday Gala Preview at The Mount. The evening offers you a great opportunity to be the first to purchase unique original works of art,” she says. “Come be inspired and entertained. Remember that 100 per cent of Gala ticket sales and festival entrance funds benefit the Wish Fund. With your help we can make even more wishes come true for those with autism.”

“Last year’s inaugural Art for Autism Festival was a huge success! More than $5,000 was raised,” says Festival Director Ellen Cowie. “On the front lines, my autistic nephew Aaron Cowie and several enterprising, thoughtful students raised funds by selling Aaron’s artwork bookmarks, and also popcorn, in the months leading up to the festival. Aaron and the Monsignor O’Donoghue Catholic Elementary School students raised $648 that they proudly donated to the Wish Fund.”

“This year many artists return including Eddie LePage and Mike Smalley, and are joined by several new artists including W. David Ward, John Lennard and Olaf Schneider. Lively musical acts will lead to dancing at the Friday Gala Preview once again,” says Ms. Cowie. “It’s a spectacular, unique event. Our generous sponsors and artists have teamed up to make this festival possible. Come join us!”
