“Throughout the Otonabee Region watershed, and indeed within the municipalities of the County of Peterborough and City of Peterborough, we are fortunate to have an extensive trail system,” says Sherry Senis, Vice-Chair of Otonabee Conservation. “Trails provide an open, safe space for recreation, education and physical activity, and a place where the landscape is preserved.”
Senis is excited about the 2018 program which “offers residents and visitors a great opportunity to explore the uniquely diverse landscape of the region.”
Several events are scheduled for International Trails Day Festival, including:
· “Spring Nature Hike along the Lakefield Trail”
· “Discover the Scenic River Road Trail”
· “Glow Ride”
· “Hike the Trent Wildlife Sanctuary”
· “Celebration of Trails at the Harold Town Conservation Area”
Complete details for all the Trails Festival events are available on Otonabee Conservation’s website at www.otonabeeconservation.com
Otonabee Conservation acknowledges and appreciates the support of local municipalities, community groups and agencies, local businesses and recreational clubs working in collaboration for the 2018 International Trails Day Festival. The local Festival was first started in 2012 and continues to provide a variety of trail events for residents and visitors to the region to enjoy.
International Trails Day - the first Saturday in June - is dedicated to the celebration of trails, their values, uses and the healthy lifestyle they encourage. The special day also affords the opportunity to recognize those who build, protect and maintain trails and broadens the constituency of trails, encouraging co-operative efforts among different trail users.
