Trent Valley Archives is pleased to invite the Peterborough and surrounding community to their Open House, on Sat., Sept. 8th from 1 – 4 pm. At 567 Carnegie Ave. to commemorate several significant historical anniversaries.
The Cumberland or Colony Settlers from the Alston, England area were the first to reach the Peterborough area in 1818. Families such as the Dixons and Lees amongst others were led by Thomas Milburn to become successful landowners and major contributors to our community. Their descendants may be particularly interested in speaking with historian Elwood Jones during this event about their ancestors’ accomplishments.
The second commemoration TVA wishes to showcase is the end of the Great War (WW 1) which occurred in November 1918. Various interesting photos, letters and medals from the Elmer Brown collection and authentic pieces of WWI military kit will be on display.
Set the date aside and come out to investigate the many resources from across five countries that are available at the Archives, the ever-improving genealogical resources and the many amazing books available for purchase. Refreshments will be available. More info from Heather at TVA at 705-745-4404 or emailing her at admin@trentvalleyarchives.com
