Jane's Walk - Severed Connections: The Jackson Creek Story

Jackson Creek has been a focal point of Peterborough's economic, social, and environmental past. This walk will be a conversation about how Jackson Creek and other places in our community connect us to the land and the people around us. How might we use environmental restoration as a means for building community resilience? Over 3 hours we will discover the hidden Creek as it runs through downtown and out of the city centre. This walk is being led by Dylan Radcliffe in partnership the Peterborough Field Naturalists.

Walk Details
The walk will take place in two parts, people are welcome to stay for the whole walk, or to join or leave us at the mid-way point:

1:00pm - We'll meet at the old railway station at 175 George St. and follow the creek to Fleming Park (240-256 Brock St).
2:30pm - Beginning at Fleming Park (240-256 Brock St) we will follow the creek up to Jackson Park.
4:00pm - The walk will end at Jackson Park.

All are welcome to attend this free event. The route will consist of city sidewalks, street crossings, paved alleys and parking garages, paved trails, and gravel trails. There will be plenty of breaks for conversation. The route will be linear, the starting and ending points are about 2.6km apart on foot (roughly 30-40min walk). We recommend you wear comfortable shoes and bring a water bottle and snacks. Dogs must be kept on leash, please stoop and scoop. Please let us know at janeswalkptbo@gmail.com if you have any accommodation needs.

May is Shifting Gears in Peterborough, we encourage you to walk, bike, bus, or carpool to and from the walk - and remember to log your trips! You may park in the Chamber of Commerce parking lot (the Chamber is closed on Saturdays) or at Jackson Park (Monaghan or Fairbairn entrances). Parking on the street is not recommended as the walk will be longer than 2 hours.

This is a free walk - you don't need to register, but if you do we will have a way to email you in case there is an unforeseen change in plans.
