20th Season of Kawartha Ribfest (Aug. 23)

One of Peterborough’s most cherished summer traditions is back. Kawartha Ribfest returns August 22–24, 2025, celebrating its 20th season with a new location at Del Crary Park, a renewed community focus, and a deep appreciation for the foundation laid by its longtime organizers.

For 19 successful years, the Rotary Club of Peterborough Kawartha hosted and nurtured Ribfest, turning it into one of the most anticipated events in the Kawarthas. When the club announced they would be stepping away from organizing the event, its future was uncertain.

That’s when Peterborough native Dennis Nephin stepped forward. A community advocate and event organizer, Nephin took on the task of carrying Ribfest forward to ensure the tradition didn’t end.

“The Rotary Club did an incredible job building Ribfest into the beloved event it is today,” said Nephin. “This year is not about reinventing Ribfest, but honouring its legacy and keeping it alive for future generations. We’re grateful to Rotary for all they’ve done to build this event.”

New Location, Same Community Spirit.

This year’s Ribfest moves to Del Crary Park, a central and scenic location that offers a beautiful lakeside backdrop for three days of BBQ, music, family fun, and community celebration.

The 2025 festival will feature:

• Four of North America’s Top Rib Teams serving award-winning BBQ

• An expanded vendors market with local businesses and artisans

• A Family Zone filled with activities and entertainment for all ages

• A full lineup of performances on the Miskin Law Main Stage

• A diverse selection of food options, ensuring something for everyone

The Hootenanny Makes Its Return!

A beloved Peterborough music tradition returns this year as The Hootenanny takes centre stage at Ribfest on Saturday, August 23. Once a fixture of downtown summers, the event will be reimagined within Ribfest and feature performance by Canadian country star Elyse Saunders, proud products of Peterborough’s vibrant music scene.

Powered by Community:

Nephin is committed to making Ribfest an inclusive event that reflects the diversity and creativity of Peterborough. He has opened the festival grounds to local businesses, nonprofits, and community groups who want to take part.

Thanks to the generous support of community partners, Ribfest remains a free event. Leading the charge was Miskin Law, the first sponsor to step forward. Other incredible supporters include Ptbo Canada, Peterborough Subaru, Peterborough Hyundai, Ontario Insurance Network, The Wolf, Fresh Radio, Global Peterborough, Pinchin, 401 Group of Companies, Labatt’s, The Venue Peterborough, Brand Connect, Commonwell Mutual Insurance, and Scholars Education.

“The response from the community has been amazing,” said Nephin. “All sponsorship dollars go directly into entertainment and activities, helping ensure Ribfest remains free and accessible for all.”
