Hank The Blue Jay Has Died #RIPHank

Hank

Sad news to end 2014. The Doritos loving Blue Jay Hank, who was rescued earlier this year by the Williams family from certain death and became Peterborough's most popular and beloved pet—getting attention far and wide, including the Weather Network—has died after escaping from the Williams home earlier this week on Boxing Day. The domesticated bird's escape sparked a #FindHank hashtag that trended locally, with the community rallying to find him and bring him home safe. Hank, we'll miss you buddy and we'll never forget you. You made our Awesome list this year because you truly are that. This whole city fell in love with you. Our thoughts are with the Williams family.  [UPDATE: Add your condolences on our Facebook post.]

Meet The Peterborough Flyball Dogs

The Peterborough Flyball Dogs are a dyanamic local club that train at Kawartha Moving and Storage on Mervin Street in Peterborough in a heated facility.

The Peterborough Flyball Dogs team is a not-for-profit organization. Members share the cost of training their dogs for this relay dog sport. The club meets weekly, during the competition season, from March until the end of August. They are going to be starting their fourth year of training in the new year.

Most of the dogs in the club are local, however, they have members that come from the surrounding communities and as far away as Oshawa to train with the team on Thursday evenings.

The new season begins March 2015, and if you think your dog might be interested in becoming a flyball dog, email here. The team has a roster cap of 20 dogs. They accept all breeds and are always on the lookout for the smaller breeds to act as "Height Dogs". Learn more on their Facebook page.

PTBOCanada Pics: Grand Opening Of The Peterborough Dog Club Off-Leash Park

On Wednesday (October 15th), the Peterborough Dog Club Off-Leash Dog Park held a grand opening ceremony, complete with a bagpiper and ribbon cutting ceremony with the Mayor and dignitaries. Volunteers and donors alike were thanked for their contributions, as it was a long process to to bring the park to fruition. Now officially open with two large pads and an additional tiny pad for smaller dogs, this off-leash park gives pooches a place to socialize and burn off some extra energy.

DIRECTIONS TO DOG PARK:
To get to the dog park, you can park alongside Ashburnham Drive, just North of Lansdowne Street along the right hand side. You will see a small parking lot (which may expand in the future) and a sign along a paved path indicating the direction to the park. You can also park along the rear of Morello's Independent Grocer (400 Lansdowne Street East) and the paved path right there will take you to the park.
