Crime Report: Man Charged With Impaired & Failing To Remain At Accident; Another Charged After Throwing Roofing Hatchet At TV

From a Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service Media Release today...

Impaired Driving - Fail to Remain at Accident
 
On August 19th, 2011 at approximately 8:45 pm the accused, 36 year old Christopher Blackwood of Peterborough, was operating a vehicle on Park St near Stewart Place when he collided with a second vehicle which had been stopped for a red traffic light.  Immediately after the collision Blackwood completed a u-turn and left the area.
 
There were no reported injuries as a result of the accident.
 
Witnesses were able to provide sufficient information to police that lead to the location and arrest of Blackwood at a Stewart St residence.  Blackwood has been charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Over .08, Fail to Remain at the scene of an accident, Drive while disqualified, Breach of Probation x 2.  Blackwood was held in custody and will appear in court by way of video later this morning to begin the process of determining his innocence or guilt.
 
Mischief & Weapons Charge
 
On August 19th, 2011 at approximately 10:25 am the accused, 38 year old Ronald Martin of Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield Township, attended a Bethune St address demanding money that was owed to him.  Martin became involved in a dispute with the victim in this matter when the money was not available and told the victim he would be returning to collect.  On his way out of the residence Martin grabbed a roofing hatchet and threw it at the victim's television, smashing the screen.
 
Martin has been charged with Mischief under $5000 and Weapons Dangerous.  He will appear in court by way of video later this morning to begin the process of determining his innocence or guilt.
