The roads were treacherous Saturday in Peterborough due to icy conditions, and one woman is lucky to be alive after her slid off Water Street and into the Otonabee River.

Her car went off the road on Water St., hit a hydrant and ended up on the icy river.

Emergency crews were called to the scene and found the vehicle in a precarious position on the ice.

Fire Captain Wesley Lake says the woman is a bit shaken up but otherwise OK.

Multiple police, ambulance and fire trucks were on scene, and traffic was stopped during the rescue.
