PTBOCanada Featured Post: Win This Space Entrepreneurial Competition Is Back For Another Year!

Listen up local entrepreneurs: You’ve got yet another chance of a lifetime to win a free one-year lease of a downtown storefront because one of the city’s top contests is returning to the scene!

After the success of its inaugural competition in 2017, Win This Space is back for 2018 after officially launching its campaign yet again, looking to build on the momentum it created last year.

The competition brings together the best and brightest local business minds as a way to support up and coming local entrepreneurs, spur economic development and provide a unique opportunity for those who could really use it.

Don’t sleep on this: As of right now, entrepreneurs have until November 25th to put together their initial submission of a 1-3 minute video they’re to submit via WinThisSpace.com. The Top 10 finalists will take several workshops before a winner is chosen on March 1st, 2018 by a panel of successful local entrepreneurs. The winner will then have their choice of available participating downtown locations—for free!

Last year’s winner, Tiny Greens, opened up shop at 431 George St N in the heart of Downtown Peterborough.

“It’s exciting to see all the creative ideas people have for their dream of what they would do with a downtown storefront,” says Terry Guiel, Executive Director of the Downtown Business Improvement Area. “Win This Space is more than just filling vacancies or creating jobs, it’s about inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs to take that next bold step.”

The Win This Space competition is a Peterborough DBIA initiative in partnership with Peterborough & the Kawarthas Economic Development, StartUP Peterborough, Community Futures Peterborough and Shorelines Slots at Kawartha Downs.

On top of getting a free lease, a number of local businesses have donated their products and services. Continue to check in at winthisspace.com as more details are released regarding the full prize package for the winning entry, which is valued at more than $40,000. That’s a pretty nice haul if you ask us!

Win This Space has a number of institutions, agencies and businesses that have graciously stepped up to each cover the cost of a month’s lease while others have donated funds to support the program or additional prizes for the winner—making this truly a community event.
