77-Year-Old Peterborough Woman Lost $6,000 From Grandparent Scam

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating after a report of a grandparent scam of $6,000.

A 77-year-old Peterborough woman who was scammed, contacted the police after the scammers asked for more money.  

The police are reminding residents that if they are approached by someone they don’t know making claims about money being required because their grandchild is in jail or needs help with court proceedings, please do not believe them at face value. Take the time to verify the story by calling your family members or speaking to a trusted friend.  There is no urgency to respond in the moment.
