The win improved Peterborough's record to 5-4 and moved the Lakers from fifth to third place in the Major Series Lacrosse standings. Peterborough, Oakville and Brooklin all have 10 points, but the Lakers moved ahead of Brooklin by winning the season series 2-1. The Lakers remain behind the Rock, who hold the tiebreaker after defeating Peterborough earlier this season.

The Lakers controlled the game from the start, building a 4-1 lead after the opening period and extending it to 8-3 through 40 minutes. Peterborough then scored four more times in the third period to put the game out of reach before Brooklin added three late goals.

Justin Sykes led the offence with three goals and an assist, while Thomas Hoggarth scored twice in his return to the lineup after missing time with an injury. Taite Cattoni also scored twice, and Ryan Lanchbury continued his strong start with the Lakers by recording six assists.

Rob Hellyer chipped in six points with a goal and five assists, while Mike Robinson, Liam Patten, Matt Gilray and Brad McCulley also found the scoresheet.

Drew Hutchison was outstanding in goal, making 50 saves as the Lakers earned their second win over Brooklin this season.

The game also served as PRHC Night, with the Lakers wearing special red Canada Day-themed jerseys that were auctioned in support of the PRHC Foundation's $70 million Campaign for PRHC. Around $3,100 was raised, with several jerseys still available.

Fans interested in purchasing one of the remaining jerseys can contact Pete Dalliday. Holden and Taite Cattoni's jerseys drew the highest bids at $500 each.

Proceeds from the second-intermission ball toss and donations made through ticket purchases also supported the campaign, and the Kinsmen Club of Peterborough has pledged to match the Lakers' donation up to $10,000. Fans can also donate directly to the PRHC Foundation online.

Peterborough returns to action Monday night when it visits Oakville before coming back to the Peterborough Memorial Centre to host Cobourg on July 2.
