Lakers Mascot Teddy Considering Legal Action After Altercation with Petes Mascot Roger at Mascot Birthday Party

Peterborough’s beloved sports mascots may be heading for an unexpected showdown—this time, off the floor.

Sources close to the situation say Teddy, longtime mascot of the Peterborough Lakers, is exploring legal action following an altercation with Roger, the Peterborough Petes mascot, during a recent mascot birthday party.

The incident, which was captured on video by several attendees, appears to show a playful exchange escalating into a more physical confrontation between the two fan favourites.

While mascots are known for their antics, those close to Teddy say this crossed a line.

“At first it was all in good fun,” said one witness. “But things got a little too real, a little too fast.”

Photos obtained by PTBOCanada show Teddy earlier this week meeting with well-known Peterborough lawyer Murray Miskin, sparking speculation that legal options are being seriously considered.

Insiders suggest the meeting focused on ‘next steps,’ including potential claims related to ‘emotional distress, costume damage, and reputational harm.’

Neither the Peterborough Lakers nor the Peterborough Petes have issued official statements but both organizations acknowledged they are ‘aware of the situation.’

Fans have taken to social media, with opinions divided. Some are calling it an overreaction, while others believe mascots should be held to a higher standard—especially when representing community teams.

As of now, it remains unclear whether formal legal action will be filed.

One thing is certain: What started as a birthday party may have just turned into Peterborough’s most unexpected rivalry.
