Peterborough Swim Club Makes a Splash at Huronia Region Short Course Championships

The Peterborough Swim Club delivered high-ranking performances at the 2026 Huronia Region Short Course Championships in Orangeville from Feb. 5 to 8, showcasing depth, determination and competitive excellence against the region’s top programs.

The championship meet featured approximately 500 qualified swimmers representing 10 clubs from across the Huronia Region. Peterborough Swim Club was represented by 46 athletes qualifying and competing over the course of the multi-day event.

At the conclusion of competition, the club secured a strong fourth place overall finish in team points.

Individually, several Peterborough swimmers achieved notable success. Benjamin Korkus captured the Individual High Point Award for the 10 Years and Under Male age group, and Sebastian Matamoros added his name to the club record books by setting a new Peterborough Swim Club record in the Men’s 11 to 12 age category for the short course 50-metre butterfly, posting a time of 32.25 seconds.

Across all events, Peterborough swimmers amassed total of 51 medals, including 9 gold, 25 silver and 17 bronze.

“The results at the 2026 Huronia Region Short Course Championships highlight the continued growth and success of the Peterborough Swim Club and its athletes, as well as the dedication of its coaching staff and support team,” said the Peterborough Swim Club in a press release.

PTBO Swim Club Makes Strides At 2026 Beast Cup

The PTBO Swim Club made a big splash across the competitive swimming community at this year’s Beast Cup in Belleville Jan. 10 and 11, having a weekend filled with fast swims, podium finishes and record-breaking results.

Across all events, PTBO Swim Club swimmers amassed an impressive 73 medals, including 29 gold, 22 silver and 22 bronze.

“These results reflect not only individual excellence but also a collective team effort built on dedication, preparation and support from coaches and teammates alike,” said PTBO Swim Club in a press release.

Leading the way were four swimmers who earned Individual High Point Awards in their respective age groups:

  • Benjamin Korkus – 10 Years & Under Male

  • Olivia Jones – 13-14 Year Old Female

  • Owen Stainton – 13-14 Year Old Male

  • Makenzie Decloux – 15 Years & Over Female

Strong runner-up finishes included:

  • Thea Ingram – 10 Years & Under Female

  • Sebastian Matamoros – 11-12 Year Old Male

In addition to individual awards, several swimmers achieved championship milestones. Decloux, Jones and Stainton all qualified for the Ontario Age Group Championships in multiple events as a result of their performances. Decloux also secured qualification for the Ontario Swimming Championships taking place in July.

Decloux added another accomplishment to her meet by setting a new PTBO Swim Club record in the Women’s 15 Years & Over Short Course 100 metre Individual Medley. Her time of 1:08.83 shattered the previous club record of 1:11.10, which had stood since 2001 and was set by Jacquelyn Craft.

“Breaking a record that had remained untouched for more than two decades was a defining moment of the meet and a testament to Decloux’s hard work and progression,” said PTBO Swim Club.

Peterborough Swim Club to Host 2024 Summer Ontario Youth-Junior Championships

Swim Ontario has chosen the Peterborough Swim Club to host the 2024 Summer Ontario Youth-Junior Championships.

The Peterborough Swim Club is the third oldest swim club in Ontario. starting in 1939, this year marks 85 consecutive years that the club has been providing competitive and recreational swimming opportunities in Peterborough and the surrounding region. Photo by dAVID tUAN bUI.

The provincial championships are four days long and they are held from June 13 to 16 at the Markham Pan Am Center in Markham, Ontario.

The Championships will host between 600 to 700+ qualified swimmers, representing 65 to 85+ clubs from across Ontario. This event showcases young swimmers aged 13 - 18 as they compete in various categories and events.

There is no 50-meter pool within the Peterborough area to host this provincial meet; the Peterborough Swim Club says they see this as a unique opportunity to showcase its spirit and promote the region of Peterborough and the Kawarthas.
