Two Peterborough Men Caught Speeding Arrested for Drug Possession Charges

Two Peterborough men are facing weapon and drug charges after a traffic stop stemmed from travelling at a high rate of speed on Thursday night.

At roughly 10:30 p.m., officers on duty noticed a car travelling at a high rate of speed in the Lansdowne Street area. They located the vehicle a short time later in the area of Townsend Street and Aylmer Street and initiated a traffic stop. While speaking with the driver, the officer noticed drug paraphernalia within the vehicle.

During a vehicle search, officers located a weapon, ammunition and various drugs.

A 39-year-old Peterborough man was charged with:

  • Unauthorized Possession of Weapon

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Crack Cocaine

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Fentanyl

  • Possession of over 30g dried cannabis

The accused is also currently on a Conditional Sentence Order, a lifetime Weapons Prohibition Order, and is bound by a Probation Order.

They were further charged with:

  • Fail to Comply with Probation

  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order

The accused has been held in custody and will appear in court on Friday.

A 32-year-old Peterborough man has also been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance

They were released on an undertaking and scheduled to attend court on Dec. 16.
