**The audience votes on the winners for each round, and the overall winner of the evening. On Thursday night, 12 contestants battled it out at The Venue hoping to secure a spot in the upcoming regional finals happening in June in Kingston.

Art Battle returns to Peterborough on November 13th at The Venue, where 12 painters (sign up to compete here) will try to paint their best work in 20 minutes. Last season, local resident Paul Nabuurs raised through the ranks to compete nationally in Toronto.

Peterborough & the Kawarthas Tourism (PKT) is hosting the 2015 Travel Media Association of Canada (TMAC) Conference & AGM in Peterborough in June 2015—the first time the well known association has chosen to host its conference in a rural destination.
This is a huge opportunity to showcase Peterborough and the Kawarthas—and all it has to offer—to travel journalists, photographers and bloggers across the country.
PKT are using a striking image (see above) by local artist John Climenhage that represents Peterborough & the Kawarthas to be included on marketing and conference materials, the conference website, email communications and collateral.
The image showcases a variety of local experiences, landmarks and landscapes, and will become a signature art piece to display at the Visitor Centre located at 1400 Crawford Drive.
Rock musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch fills the tiny Gordon Best Theatre stage, spills out into the crowd for audience interaction, and rocks the entire place. Filled with numerous jokes, Peterborough references (nice touch) and androgynous '70s glam rock, this play by Peterborough theatre collective Art For Awareness will have you toe tapping as Hedwig and his "begrudging" band The Angry Inch (played by Ian Jack, Sean Veecock, Geoff Bemrose and Kyle Nurse) belts out numerous tunes. The story is told as a type of monologue by Hedwig (played by Jeff Schissler) who takes you through the main character's life highs and lows, and is supplemented through great music and a fantastic range of emotion.
The show runs September 24th to the 27th, each night at 8 p.m. at Gordon Best Theatre, with an additional 11:30 p.m. performance on the 26th. Tickets are available online and at the door with partial proceeds going to CMHA's Gender Journeys program and Peterborough Pride. Follow Art for Awareness on Facebook and Twitter.

This weekend (September 20th-21st) is the annual Curve Lake Pow Wow. Here are pictures our Evan Holt took...
"At Pow Wows we gather in a circle. In a circle, no one is higher than anyone else, everyone is equal. Our dancers move in a circle, searching the ground for the footprints of our ancestors in order to follow their ways. The drum beats out the solemn rhythm of all creation. It is the sound we remember from before we were born. It is the rhythm of our mothers' heartbeat. The drums summon up a memory that is common to us all."
