Robinson Place In Downtown Peterborough Turns 20

Robinson Place at 300 Water Street turns 20 this year, and is hosting anniversary celebrations this Friday, November 4th. Home to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry as well as housing many other ministries, this building is also a provincial leader achieving LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum status two years ago.

One of Canada's most eco-friendly buildings, it has ample room for bicycle storage, a waterfall and community garden out back, and a 35,000-litre tank that gathers rainwater to be diverted to the flush toilets. Here are some photos of the various stages of construction...

Blue Rodeo's Greg Keelor Makes Vintage Finds In Downtown Peterborough

It's pretty cool when rock stars shop in downtown Peterborough. This week, Greg Keelor from Blue Rodeo dropped by Catalina's on Water—a vintage store on Water St.—and filled up his vintage wheels with retro furniture finds from there.

"Mr. Greg Keelor buys out our store! An amazing day indeed," Catalina's owner Catalina Motta posted to her Facebook page along with the photo above.

Greg & Catalina with what Catalina calls his "uber cool car"

"Greg is a very charming man," Catalina tells PTBOCanada. "He has shopped in my Hunter Street location in the past buying things like quality vintage Italian knit ties and the like. Now with my Water St location, I am able to showcase a larger array of my vintage finds. He walked in and bought my most coveted pieces: mid-century modern dining table with four chairs, and a rather ornate Queen Anne sofa which he claims will be re-purposed. He bought various other bits, too."

To bring in as many Pokémon as possible, Downtown Peterborough be using lure modules at seven PokeStops.

Saturday’s event will focus on the George Street area between Simcoe and Brock streets as well as Hunter Street between George and Aylmer streets. Here is the route map...

The Pokémon Go event will have several dedicated phone charging stations and there will be a colouring contest sponsored by Gerri’s Arts and Crafts in the Peterborough Square entrance at the corner of George and Simcoe streets.

Hey George!

George, King of Downtown, will also make a guest appearance at noon at the colouring station.

“There’s so much enthusiasm from the community for this event,” says Terry Guiel, Executive Director of the Downtown Business Improvement Area. “It’s great to see a video game that gets people outside and enjoying our beautiful city. This event is an opportunity to do something a little different, have some fun, and enjoy a summer Saturday afternoon downtown.”
